PJ Washington Wants 'Fire Nico' Chants To End

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Mar 17, 2025 1:17 pm

Dallas Mavericks forward P.J. Washington was happy to be back on the floor after an ankle injury. However, Washington is ready for the fans to stop chanting "Fire Nico" during Mavs games.

When shooting free throws during the game, Washington yelled "Shut yo ass up!" at a fan who was chanting "Fire Nico". Postgame, the Mavericks forward made it clear where he stands on the chanting.

"At the end of the day, the trades happened," Washington said. "We understand we have a new team now. All that 'Fire Nico' stuff, we’re sick and tired of hearing it. We just want to go out there and play and we need the fans to support us no matter who’s on the floor. That’s just how I feel about it."

Mavs wing Max Christie was also asked about the chants postgame.

"We’re professionals and our job is to come out here and perform regardless of the circumstances that we’re in," Christie said. "We get paid a lot of money just to play basketball. For us, we have little things like that that may be distracting and whatnot. It shouldn’t affect us. We’re professionals. We’re the best at what we do in this sport. Distractions are going to be there, and we have to be able to move forward and move past them and not let it affect us."

One obvious way to get the chants to end is to fire Nico. Until that happens, I don't think they'll go away.

Stop losing and that would help. People are disgusted.

Didn't know Dallas was doing this, hard to blame them though.

Well, DAL would be losing with or without the trade. Kyrie is done and they are down to eight healthy players, including 2-ways. You can't blame Nico for everything that has gone wrong.

Exactly.

First win games PJ, then you can talk about those chants.

If you don't like Dallas fanbase you can go away.
No problem.

Maybe PJ should shut up. The fans can voice their displeasure if they wish. Imagine speaking to a paying customer like that in any other industry.

I'm not a Dallas fan, but if I were, I'd be chanting "Fire Nico." As an NBA fan, I think what he did was a terrible disservice to his team, his fans, and the NBA as a whole. FIre Nico!

And bring back Donnie Nelson
"And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character hope." Rom. 5: 2-4

Max Christie complete professional and PJ was a complete cry baby.. You want fans that pay for games they get invested in players and when they see a franchise make a dumb move they won't be getting over that for a decade so PJ can cry all he wants but there are two sides to this coin he gets paid a ton for.. You can't have one without the other.. What a little cry baby.

They would have luka playing so that's 9 players. They would win more games than they are winning now..

They also exchanged Max for Maxi and Morris in the deal... Maxi is out with a broken foot, but if you count Morris, who's played 95 total minutes this season and shot 26% from the field, then I guess they would have 9.

You're correct that they would probably be winning more than they currently are... but they would still be losing more than they are winning. And obviously, if Luka's season ended the way it looks like it would have, would he really sign on with DAL long term? And id he did, how long before the trade demand? You can feel that Nico didn't get enough back for Luka, but you can't blame him for everything. The team was stuck before the trade.

Can't really agree with PJ on this one. Fans are pissed about the trade, and they have every right to voice their complaints about it.
