Mark Cuban Influence Over Mavs Decreased Shortly After Sale Of Team

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Apr 6, 2025 6:49 pm

Mark Cuban's influence over the Dallas Mavericks began to wane shortly after he sold the team to the family of Miriam Adelson and Patrick Dumont in November 2023, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

It has been suggested that Cuban gave a discount to sell the Mavs to Adelson and Dumont for a reported $3.5 billion in order to retain control over basketball decisions.

Cuban's decision-making influence over the Mavs decreased in the lead up to the 2024 trade deadline when Harrison convinced Dumont that it would be impractical for him to report to both Cuban and Dumont.

Harrison was recommended to Cuban through agent Jeff Schwartz, who was Jason Kidd's agent at the time (and now represents Harrison), according to Stein.

Stein adds that Cuban's comments about Dumont not knowing much about basketball have "rankled" the new owner behind the scenes.

Sounds like Cuban's PR team running damage control over what happened. I don't blame him, for the record....it's not his team anymore. But this story smells of "hey man....I had nothing to do with this". Just go run your companies.

To be fair it was reported at the time of the sale that he would stay in charge of the team. I wondered what happened with that way before the Luka trade...

From my understanding, all sides acknowledged (including Silver) that the league refused to let the Dumonts assign Cuban as team governor in his contract.

League forced it to become a handshake agreement -- majority owner had to be the governor in writing

And then the Dumont's reneged on the handshake agreement.

It's not damage control -- it's just the facts of what happened

(What we don't know is WHY they changed their direction, and Cuban hasn't even commented or speculated on that publiclty)

Suggested?? That's not facts. Thats Marc Stein writing what someone's opinion is...or someone's side of the story. Who's side he on??, and why? True unbiased media is dead, my man. This is Cuban getting the story (either as he sees it...or maybe even just the story he wants) out there.

I didn't say that.

Cuban didn't say that on the pod

I didn't say that.

Cuban didn't say that on Stein's pod either.

Read what I wrote (facts): the league, dumonts and cuban have all confirmed the league removed Cuban as governor.

That's all I've seen him say on this matter (Cuban even just said this again, from his own facebook account recently, commenting under a Mavs' employee's social media post)

I don't care what you wrote. The ARTICLE (which is what I was talking about) has no facts. Was just theories, and opinions. Hence the point I made.

It's not an "article"

It's one person from Wiretap writing an erroneous summary of the Stein Line's premium pod/article

And you took this as fact and aggregated it with "thats Marc Stein writing what someone's opinion is"

None of this is factual
