Anthony Edwards To Be Suspended For Regular Season Finale

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Apr 12, 2025 12:11 pm

The Minnesota Timberwolves have a lot to play for on Sunday afternoon. The Wolves need a win to avoid playing in the Play-In Tournament. That's a win Minnesota will have to get without Anthony Edwards.

On Friday, Edwards received his 18th technical foul of the season. Edwards is now set to be suspended for Sunday afternoon's regular season finale. Players are suspended for a game when they pick up their 16th technical foul on the season. They are then suspended on every other technical foul from that point.

Edwards previously missed the Timberwolves loss at the Utah Jazz at the end of February, after picking up his 16th technical foul. In a twist of fate, the Wolves again play Utah on Sunday, this time in Minnesota.

Technical foul counts are wiped clean when the playoffs begin. As such, it's unlikely Edwards will be facing any suspensions, should Minnesota make the playoffs.

The NBA is punishing players because they get frustrated with the refs for not enforcing the rulebook. If the refs are not going to call fouls based on the rulebook then the rules need to be changed. So many complaints about teams shooting more 3s but no discussion about how 3pt shooting teams (the warriors) have benefited from being allowed to play physical defense on players when they drive to the basket while not being impacted on their 3pt shooting because the way shooters are protected and they get to benefit from moving screens. Go watch game 2 of the finals when the warriors played the Celtics, they were down 0-1 and Green was allowed to hack away on Tatum and Brown on drives to the basket.

This technical foul rule erroneously values deterring technical fouls more than players playing games.

Do coaches, fans, or players actively advocate for this rule to continue?

I do. It keeps busy like Draymond and Edwards in check.

They need to learn to control their emotions.

I’ve been screaming for years that they need to reinstate a hand check between half court and the break at the three point line. As dirty as Draymond is, it’s ridiculous that guys as big as Tatum, Brown and KD can’t be touched as they walk into pull-up threes.
