Doug Christie 'Well-Positioned' To Remain Head Coach Of Kings

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Apr 17, 2025 7:13 pm

Doug Christie is well-positioned to remain head coach of the Sacramento Kings, but he has yet to be given any assurances, sources tell Sam Amick of The Athletic. After the Kings were eliminated in the Play-In, they swiftly parted ways with Monte McNair as general manager and hired Scott Perry as his replacement. Perry will have influence over the head coach decision.

“None,” Christie said after Wednesday's loss. “But this is where I want to be. You guys know that. I need to finish what I started.”

The Kings elevated Christie to interim head coach after firing Mike Brown in December. The Kings initially surged under Christie before struggling over the final stretch of the season in which they also traded De'Aaron Fox and brought back Zach LaVine.

Christie first joined the Kings' bench as an assistant in 2021. The Kings hired Mike Brown in 2022.

What a good player DeRozan is.
It is also a pity that everybody in Kings franchise believes he can play the 4 at 1.98 and 35 yo.
Once they realize that before he is really too old, maybe they can find a 3 who can intimidate or a rewal 4 and play DeRozan at his natural position of 3.

Derozan can not shoot 3s and isn't a good defender the trade they made was horrendous last season all that said Fox is not worth a max so I actually don't see any issues here the kings really need to tank and find an actual star because they don't have one.. Trade Sabonis trade derozan get whatever picks you can and just tank to you get an actual star to build around...Its the west its hard enough as is let alone without a real star

I believe they have enough good players to tank. Sabonis, Ellis, Murray, DeRozan, Monk... I think they are closer to competing now than to find good players along the always bumpy road that a reconstruction could offer.

The only player they could get something interesting for is Sabonis.

The problem with their roster is that Sabonis, Murray and DeRozan are all undersized for their positions.

DeRozan doesn't need to shoot 3pt. The fact that Monk, Fox and Huerter all had a lower 3P% than DeRozan and combined for 18 3PA per game was the biggest reason the Fox trade needed to happen. SAC was 19th in 3P% this season. Last season they were 9th and the season before that they were 1st. They didn't bring in DeRozan to add spacing; they brought him in because they thought they had spacing and he knew what to do with it. SAC was expecting their shooters to bounce back after a bad season. It's not DeRozan's fault that everyone else forgot how to shoot.

And to be fair, DeRozan is paid like a 3rd/4th option. He put up 22/4/4 (about his career averages on better than his average efficiency) at less than half of max money. He also has the best Ast/To ratio (3.3) in SAC by a large margin. Did anyone expect more from him? Fox put up 25/5/6 with lower efficiency, with double the TO's and at 150% of the price tag. If one of these players is worth their contract it's DeRozan.
