Trae Young Considered Likely To Remain With Hawks

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Apr 28, 2025 12:29 am

Trae Young appears to have locked his position as the Atlanta Hawks' cornerstone following a strong 2024-25 campaign that has quieted previous trade speculation, reports Jake Fischer.

Young's future with the franchise seemed uncertain after the 23-24 season, when rumors swirled about potential roster reshuffling under then-general manager Landry Fields. However, Young's return to All-Star form this season has significantly altered the conversation around his long-term fit in Atlanta. Young averaged 24.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 11.6 assists in 36.0 minutes over 76 games this season.

Last offseason, the Hawks faced a decision with their All-Star backcourt of Young and Dejounte Murray. The organization ultimately chose to trade Murray to New Orleans, acquiring defensive standout Dyson Daniels in return, a move that has paid dividends for both Young and the team.

Young and Daniels have demonstrated strong backcourt chemistry, while rookie Zaccharie Risacher, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, has thrived alongside Young following forward Jalen Johnson's season-ending shoulder injury. Risacher has particularly benefited as a lane-filler receiving passes from Young's playmaking.

Team officials have repeatedly praised Young's evolution as a leader, highlighting his initiative in hosting summer workouts in Oklahoma for Daniels and Risacher. Coaches have noted Young's improved willingness to advance the ball to teammates in transition, showing growth in his playmaking approach.

Quin Snyder has specifically commended Young's enhanced defensive commitment and effort. These improvements, combined with his offensive production, position the 26-year-old point guard to remain the centerpiece of Atlanta's plans, pending confirmation from whoever replaces Fields as the Hawks' president of basketball operations.

Young is eligible for a contract extension this offseason and can otherwise become a free agent in 2026.

BS. They are just desperately trying to somehow increase his value and gain some kind of leverage, cause there is no market for him and his current contract.
