Nets Not Expected To Have 'Long-Haul Tank'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue May 6, 2025 2:03 pm

The Brooklyn Nets were able to bottom out during the 24-25 season with a chance at a high lottery pick after they reacquired their 2025 first rounder in a trade last June with the Houston Rockets. The Nets have the most salary cap space this offseason and are not expected to embark on an extended rebuild.

The Nets only have Cameron Johnson and Nicolas Clayton on long-term contracts.

"The buzz from rival teams has been the Nets aren't planning for a true long-haul tank, even after reacquiring their own picks last summer," writes ESPN's Jeremy Woo.

Brooklyn still owes a 2027 first round swap to the Rockets as part of the James Harden trade. Sean Marks has run the Brooklyn front office since February 2016.

This is why I don't like the Nets. Every time they start a rebuild they want to cut corners and do it quickly and beach time it blows up in their face. Please do a proper rebuild take a few years get a star in the draft quit trying to buy a team. They had a nice little roster before Covid and then decided to bring in Irving, Durant and Harden and that went oh so well.

The reason they are likely saying this is because they have been presented with an opportunity as they are on the Top List for an upcoming trade or FA.

If a Top 12 player who is not a malcontent says he wants to be the face of your franchise you have to listen.

Hmm what exactly is your criticism of him? He brought them back to relevance and then contention after the Celtics trade disaster, and every single GM ever would’ve done the KD-Harden-Irving moves. And he got pretty good prices for all of them too, and then for Mikal Bridges too. Makes sense they’d be where they’re at after that and it seems like they’re in a nice spot for a rebuild.

100%. He took over what was perceived to be the worst job in sports. A roster with no picks in forever, plus Brook Lopez & Thad Young as your two best layers. In short order, he made the team relevant, was able to go all in on a big 3 that likely wins at least one championship save for a once in a century pandemic, a vaccine mandate & crippling injuries. After Kyrie went crazy, KD got hurt, and Harden forced his way out, Marks pivoted into arguably the second best war chest of draft assets in the league. He takes drafts very well, takes big swings and does a great job pivoting if that swing misses. That's basically everything you want from a GM.
