Yeah but lots of teams employ head coach level lead assistants. He only has 4 yrs experience but seems to be good already, and he's proven he has the passion, personality and mentality to a true leader of the team. Teams that rally around a leader can be some of the most dangerous in any pro sport, the players will run through a brick wall for the coach.
Probably he is more made to be an assistant, as he did not have good stints in previous tenures with teams.
Woodson was not a good player coach or the Hawks.
May be Christie has a good relationship with the players while Woodson can be that coach behind the scenes... maybe...
Ya that's what I think the set up could be, Woodson will be the expert of strategy, Xs and Os, and make more of the crucial in game calls, and Christie the main figurehead, the vocal guy to lead & inspire them. Woodson wasn't the greatest as HC but pretty good as an assistant. Had alright 3-4 year runs with Hawks and Knicks and 2 really good years, and 2 not so good ones for both teams.
I actually thought he might've been a good choice as head coach if they didn't go with Brown instead. I was hoping for a wiser, more knowledgeable & experienced coach instead of mid-late 30s guys like Joerger & Walton were. Teams like the Kings need to go with guys who are a bit older, experts in their fields instead of young, unproven and first year guys like Joerger, Luke, McNair etc.
