Bucks Remain Hopeful Giannis Antetokounmpo Won't Request Trade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon May 12, 2025 8:11 pm

Giannis Antetokounmpo has made no firm decisions regarding his future with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to league sources, despite intense speculation following the team's third consecutive first-round playoff exit. Antetokounmpo is reportedly open-minded about his future with the Bucks for the first time in his career.

The Bucks organization remains hopeful that their franchise cornerstone will not request a trade. Sources indicate Milwaukee has no intention of exploring trade possibilities for the two-time MVP unless directly prompted by Antetokounmpo himself.

The annual postseason meeting between Bucks officials and Antetokounmpo's representatives Alex Saratsis and Georgios Panou has reportedly not yet taken place. This discussion typically addresses the superstar's future plans and team direction.

Trade Scenarios Would Be Complex

Antetokounmpo has two fully guaranteed years remaining on his contract before a $62.8 million player option in 2027-28. Any potential trade request would likely include destination preferences from Antetokounmpo.

Multiple teams are positioned as potential suitors should Antetokounmpo become available. The Brooklyn Nets have targeted him for an extended period, while the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs possess significant trade assets and an incumbent roster that could appeal to him.

The Oklahoma City Thunder, with its wealth of draft capital, could construct a compelling offer if willing to deviate from its typically patient approach. The Utah Jazz and New Orleans Pelicans are also potential participants in any multi-team trade scenario. The Pelicans hold particular leverage in any discussions as they control Milwaukee's first-round draft picks for the next three years, adding another layer of complexity to the Bucks' decision-making process.

The Spurs moved up. This trade is now easy.

Castle, 2, Barnes and Keldon for salary matching.

HOU cannot match the upside on that offer.

OKC would have to offer Jalen and Chet to top it, and that would defeat their purpose of trading for Giannis.
