Kings Like Russell Westbrook But Dealing With Backcourt Logjam

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 11, 2025 1:19 pm

In a recent appearance on Sactown Sports in Sacramento, Sam Amick gave some insight into the Sacramento Kings thinking with their backcourt. One player that Kings GM Scott Perry is fond of is Russell Westbrook. However, Sacramento has a logjam in the backcourt and no signing seems imminent.

Westbrook is a free agent after declining a player option with the Denver Nuggets for the upcoming season. He's been linked to a handful of teams throughout the offseason, but no deal has come to fruition for the veteran point guard as of yet.

Sacramento added Dennis Schroder, as they prioritized signing a veteran point guard this offseason. Schroder is joining returnees Zach LaVine, Malik Monk, Keon Ellis and Devin Carter in the Kings backcourt.

How did this team break their playoff drought and then become....this?

Most of the damage was done when Fox wanted allthemoney in an extension. Fox clearly isn't worth allthemoney, so they traded him for two 1sts, four 2nds and a player that is also not worth allthemoney but is getting it anyway.

It is my suspicion that they planned to tread water, hoping that they could eventually flip Lavine. Time will tell; it never looked promising, but if LaVine stays healthy and plays as well as he did last season, who knows?

Russell Westbrook on the vet mini should've been their starting PG.
