Pro Bettor Placed 30 Wagers On Terry Rozier Props Before 2023 NBA Game Exit

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 18, 2025 8:27 pm

A professional bettor placed 30 wagers totaling $13,759 on Terry Rozier prop bet unders before a March 2023 Charlotte Hornets game, according to documents obtained by ESPN. All bets won after Rozier exited the game after 10 minutes citing a foot injury.

The betting activity occurred at Harrah's Gulf Coast in Biloxi, Mississippi on March 23, 2023, before the Hornets-Pelicans matchup. The bettor placed wagers on under totals for Rozier's points, rebounds, and assists, with the largest single bet reaching $2,700 on under 5.5 rebounds.

At least six sportsbooks across multiple states detected suspicious betting patterns on Rozier props that day. The bulk of unusual activity occurred in Louisiana and Mississippi, according to sources familiar with a U.S. Integrity monitoring report.

The NBA investigated the betting irregularities in 2023 and found no league rule violations. However, Rozier remains under federal investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York, though he has not been charged with wrongdoing.

U.S. Integrity issued a nationwide alert about "Suspicious Wagering Terry Rozier NBA Player Props" at 2:24 p.m. on game day. Most major sportsbooks halted betting on Rozier props within an hour of the alert.

The investigation connects to the same federal probe that resulted in former Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter's NBA ban. Some betting accounts that wagered on Porter also placed bets on Rozier props, according to gambling industry sources.

Rozier's attorney Jim Trusty said his client is not a target of the ongoing investigation. Trusty noted that Rozier met with NBA and FBI officials multiple times in 2023, with the initial investigation clearing him of wrongdoing.

"It's unfortunate that he's a big name in sports and is having to endure all this," Trusty told ESPN. "My hope and expectation is that at some point that they'll be done with their investigation and will be professional enough to let us know that it's 100 percent over."

Rozier finished the game with 5 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists, all under the betting lines. He did not play the remainder of the season and was traded to the Miami Heat in January 2024.

Gang ties. Cooked.

Real Q is why MIA took him on when other teams like BOS jettisoned him.

Cleared him of wrongdoing huh? Must have all been a coincidence. What a joke. Pro sports is done.

Probably would be hard to trace it back to him if he used cash, and told his friends verbally

Jontay Porter really paved the way for a generation of NBA betting delinquents

Clearly defense is the difference between winning and losing for this team.

It doesn't say here that he was clearead of wrongdoing. It says "he has not been charged with wrongdoing." That's a different thing entirely.

Exactly. And could someone please tell my lopsided brain why a player who has earned over $130 million in career earnings would be interested in a few grand for his buddies in MS? Would he not just benefit more by giving them the money?

He didn’t pave the way, he’s just the first to get caught.

The sad part about this is, your teammate could leak injury info about you to a group of betters and now they are wagering on you and you get looped in. This whole legalizing gambling on sports is a slippery slope. Again I wouldn’t be surprised if Rozier is innocent. What’s stopping a teammate from telling a friend “ I don’t think Rozier wlll play the whole game tonight, bet the under on all his prop bets” that’s VERY easy to do when you’re in the know.. hell what’s stopping a member of the training staff from doing the same?

This is always the position I come back to. The greed of the league trickles down to some players too (no doubt more than we know).

The NBA cleared him.

Can you be cleared of something you haven't been charged with?

The NBA invesitgated and banned Jontay Porter for life before he was criminally charged.

So the answer to your question is "yes".

Porter was banned after a league probe found he disclosed confidential information to sports bettors and wagered on games himself, even betting on his own team to lose. He wasn't charged or cleared, just banned.

Nothing in this article or the original ESPN article suggest that Rozier was cleared of anything. He was investigated by the NBA and nothing incriminating was found, but that isn't the same as being cleared. If new evidence come to light, they'll take a look.
