Guerschon Yabusele Calls Limited Role With Knicks "Very Difficult"

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Dec 14, 2025 4:51 pm

New York Knicks big man Guerschon Yabusele was recently interviewed by Ouest France, a media outlet from his home country. One of the topics discussed was Yabusele's so-far limited role in his first year with the Knicks.

"I don’t want to lie to you, it’s very difficult," Yabusele said. "I’m a competitor first. It’s not a situation I thought (I would be in) coming here."

Yabusele had what he described as a "complicated" communication with the Knicks coaching staff, led by head coach Mike Brown. Previously, Brown had said he'd be "patient" with Yabusele, as the big man adjusted to his new team.

For his part, Yabusele is remaining positive and prepared for whatever role comes his way.

"I try to be ready whenever my name is called," Yabusele said. "I try to control my impact on the court, no matter how much time I get."

<sigh>

Im not gonna beat him up this time. But hes been ineffective to say the least and hes not impactful enough even when on his game, which has been rare, for the knicks to let him struggle with minutes in hopes he breaks out,. So hes gonna have to use practice and the moments he gets to show out. There will be no "rythm" minutes for him. You either be ready when you get your moments or you sit back down

he just doesnt fit with the roster or the coach. He went there because he hasnt made a lot of money playing basketball and they offered him the most money. Thats OKAY! But he gotta understand what comes with that. Maybe theyll trade him back to the 76ers at the deadline, or another team with a center that wants to play with 2 bigs at the same time.

Look, I never thought hed be some highly skilled go to player. But what SHOULD he have been? A high energy guy who crashes boards, dives for loos balls. Basically a Josh Hart type at PF and it just never materialized

I've watched almost quite a bit of his minutes this year. It's unclear to me what skillset he's bringing to the table that helps winning. I'm not seeing really anything - no above average defense, rebounding, shot creation or finishing, movement, etc. All I've seen is a body on the floor, basically, and one that routinely appears to be the slowest player out there. And he's playing "below the rim," too.

Did we sign this guy because we thought he'd shoot the 3-ball better than Precious Achiuwa could? Well I had a feeling this summer that swapping the two of them, at double the price, just to secure the POSSIBILITY of 3 point shooting at a few ticks higher percentage was a 'rob Peter to pay Paul' kind of deal, given Achiuwa's clear superiority in just about every other facet of the game, including the ability to actually get out and run, to make something creative happen off the bounce every now and then. And sure enough, as Yabu's 3pt shooting has fallen back to earth, it's obvious there isn't a single thing Yabu can do that Achiuwa wouldn't be doing better for the Knicks right now - including shooting the ball in the general sense. Achiuwa is currently shooting 57% from the field over in Sacramento, the best shooting percentage of his career. But really, it's not the shooting comparison that bothers me, it's the fact that Achiuwa seems to fit exactly what Mike Brown wants to do, which is use defense/rebounding/take-aways to create fast-paced offense on the other end. Achiuwa has the athleticism and enough ball-handling that he could have been a participant in that.

Frustrating that we're probably stuck with him through next year. With the apron so tight, we really could have used that salary slot to do something with our bench.

There is no possible way he thought he was getting minutes there

Definitely can see the Knicks trading him away to a team that could use his expiring contract for next season.
