Since Rondo has an extra year left on his contract, this isn’t exactly true. If you’re trying to dump a player you don’t take salary for the following year in the form of a negative player.
Rondo's 7.5M due next season is inconsequential to Balmer. And it will be a tradable expiring contract next season, although they will likely need to send a 2nd with it. But I didn't mean to suggest that LAC didn't hope to get something out of Rondo, just that LAC will get better just by removing Lou. Anything Rondo contributes is a bonus.
Don't get me wrong, I like Lou. But he didn't fit in LAC anymore. He should look a whole lot better in ATL.
This doesn’t change the part where Lou is better at basketball then Rondo. The entire getting rid of Williams angle you’re trying to sell doesn’t make sense on any level. They acquired Rondo because they think he will help them.
Lou is a better basketball player than Rondo.... on many, many levels.... except when it comes to passing, defending and shooting efficiently. (And that's saying a lot, cause Rondo can't shoot!) LAC didn't need Lou, they didn't want Lou and they got rid of Lou. Rondo might help, but getting rid of Lou will be a big help all on it's own. Addition by subtraction.
All year they LAC has been leaking that they need a "traditional" PG. What they were saying is that Lou needs to stop jacking and start passing. It was never going to happen.
Consequently, ATL needs exactly what Lou brings. It's a win-win.
