The funny thing about this is I'm not sure if you think this is insulting to Roy or MPj.

All these accolades belong to either Roy or Porter... I'll let you guess which.

Western Conference All-Star in his 2nd, 3rd and 4th seasons
All-NBA Second Team - 2009
All-NBA Third Team - 2010
Player Of The Week - 12/09/2007, 12/16/2007, 12/01/2008, 4/13/2009, 3/15/2010
Rookie Of The Year - 2007
All-Rookie First Team - 2007
Rookie Of The Month - Jan. 2007, Feb. 2007, Mar. 2007
PBWA Magic Johnson Award - 2009

If Roy had cartilage in his knees he would be HOF bound. MPJ... I don't think so. A better comp might be Gallinari.

Porter had one really healthy year vs four, so it's hard to really gauge. He showed enough in that year that if you project forward he would have been a hell of a lot better than Gallinari.

Of course, Porter may still have healthy years in front of him, we don't know yet, but I am not hopeful for him.

Certainly Roy was the more proven of the two guys.

Of these accolades only the first three lines are meaningful, but you are right that Roy was a much more proven player. Porter was obviously still someone whom you just saw tremendous potential in but hadn't fully delivered on it.

I just copied them from his RealGM player page. If I had written it myself I would probably stopped at the first line. :D

You might be forgetting the health issues Gallo has faced. They are both 6' 10" forwards with range and defensive issues. I would say the biggest difference between them is Porter was playing with Jokic in year two and Gallo was playing with Chris Duhon. MPJ is getting the easy looks!

Porter was a better shooter in his one healthy season than any in Gallinari's career and was a better athlete. He was viewed, at one point, as an elite prospect with superstar potential. His scoring was on par with Gallinari's absolute best years (like 10 years into his career) in his one healthy season.

Maybe Porter had already peaked, but it seems pretty unlikely. He seems like a guy whom could have been an absolutely elite shooter and pretty trivially could have been a 25ppg+ guy with extreme efficiency. I mean he was at 66% TS% at 19ppg already.

We probably won't find out what healthy MPJ would have done, but it's not hard to envision how he may have been a superstar if he had been able to stay healthy.

Gallinari has missed 19+ games in 9 of his 12 seasons. His development was absolutely curtailed by injury. And as I mentioned, situation (teammates) matters. Either way, a much closer comp than Roy.

One thing about Denver is they draft really well. It's unfortunate with Porter. He was a gutsy pick that really looked to be paying off. Hopefully he'll get back. Like I said, Denver knows how to find talent in the draft. Even if they end up having a down year, they'll be right back with their ability to develop talent. Great organization for sure.
