Shane Battier: 'No Doubt' NBA Will Have A Female Player

With Mark Cuban publicly saying he would consider drafting Brittney Griner, Shane Battier believes that there will be a female player in the NBA at some point in the future.

"There's no doubt that in our lifetime, there will be a woman NBA player," Battier said.

"I don't know if it's Griner or if it's someone who is 5 years old right now. But we'll see it. It'll happen in our lifetime. Just the law of averages."

Battier feels that special women would need to have a skill set similar to LeBron James.

"I don't think it would be out of the realm of possibility that [one day] we'll see a female LeBron," Battier said. "You could be the most skilled player in the world that the women's game has ever seen, but that won't cut it in the NBA. She'd have to be a physical specimen."

I agree with battier. He employed sound reasoning here, justifying his reputation of being an above average intelligent guy.

However, I'm not sure if there will ever be a female athlete big enough and athletic enough to compete in the nba. Law of averages aside, we're talking about a different sex, which, as we all know, is physically smaller, athletically slower, poorer lateral speed, quickness, and vertical jump.

If such a girl were to be found, she would likely play point, and she would need to have above average size, and at least average athleticism by nba standards.

I'm not sure it will ever happen.

As for the unnecessary mark cuban creating a stir around Britney riner? Oh pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Anyone with a basketball acumen will naturally wonder: what position would she play? She's far too undersized for the center, and far too thin for the price. Her body is usuly seen in small forwards or super athletes like hakim Warrick, stfomile swift, etc. And one look at her informs you quite conclusively that she simply lacks nba athleticism. Being able to dunk is nice and all. She could be the wnbas next great star; but only as a sideshow could she merit playing in the nba.

What mark cuban is probably thinking is just that. His ailing mavericks and the rebuilding mode the team is in will likely affect ticket sales. So why not create a stir ( and a mockery of Britney, the nba, and his own self) by drafting the first female athlete?

I really hope Cuban doesn't go through with something so terrible. They're making the move purely for show because there is no doubt that she can't compete against the guys.

And to Shane Battier: this "girl" would have to be pumped with growth hormones/testosterone or something.

Well if she did use HGH, then she'd likely be on a level playing field with other NBA players.
