NBA Scout: McLemore Is A 'Better Version' Of Ray Allen

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Apr 11, 2013 9:08 pm

On condition of anonymity, an NBA scout assessed how Ben McLemore’s skill set will translate to the NBA.

“McLemore is a better version of Ray Allen. He will play shooting guard the way it is supposed to be played,” the talent evaluator said. “The only negative to his game is sometimes he defers. He could definitely use another year in college to learn to take over games.

“Obviously, he had to go (pro),” the scout quickly added. “The draft is only about potential now.”

McLemore’s shooting stroke has drawn raves from NBA observers.

McLemore shot 49.5 percent from the floor, including 42 percent from the three-point line, during his lone season at Kansas.

Shots fired at Ray Allen.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;

Does this scout work for the TWolves or Bobcats?

Well Ray Allen did play 3 years at UConn whereas Ben McLemore is leaving after just 1. The times have changed. the key thing to look for is their freshman year stats.
McLemore's numbers are better across the board. What Ray Allen has working in his favor is that College basketball in general was stronger back in the 90's.
If McLemore dedicates himself and lands in a good environment then he could have a career similar to Ray Ray. long shot....but the potential is there

Wow, way to discredit the rest of Ray Allen's early career. His skillset was much more vast than just shooting it well.
Being a Blazer fan isn't exactly healthy.

This "scout" should be drug tested. How soon people forget how dynamic a player Ray was during his prime. McLemore has talent, but to call him a better version of Ray Allen sounds a lot like those people who called Harold Miner "Baby Jordan".

Ray Allen had good offensive skills during his prime. He could create his shot when he was in Seattle. Also played some decent D.

Terrible draft crop this year. I don't think McLemore will be anything close to a prime Ray Allen, his ceiling is Eric Gordon but I wouldn't be surprised if he busts out. Prepared to eat my words if I'm wrong as well.

McLemore is a skilled player but to call him a better version of the best shooter the game has ever seen is laughable to say the least.

Are you really conveniently ignoring that allen only played 21.6 MPG as a freshman vs. McLemore's 32.2? If you extrapolate for the same min, allen's #s are right there with McLemore's. Just seems a little ridiculous for a scout to call McLemore a "better version" of Allen when Allen was an All NBA player in his prime. Those are few and far between.
