Brandon Roy To Be Released By Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves are formalizing the release of Brandon Roy, according to sources.

Roy had one more year on his contract and was slated to earn $5.3 million next season.

This is likely the end of Roy's career.

Roy, who played just five games this season with the Timberwolves, is a three-time NBA All-Star.

my heart really goes out to Brandon hey. Terrible to have such a promising career cut down by injury. Always been a fan of his.

Another bad move from the wolves front office -

Even if they intend to let Roy retire, he still a contract that can be used to salary match in trade and provide some other team instant cap relief this summer, when THEY release Roy. There is no upside to letting him go now for the Timberwolves.

Why not trade his contract for something? Basically a TPE.

That requires a buyer. Since he was not part of a trade it indicates that no NBA team is interested in his services and likely that his career is over.

Wouldn't be hard to find a buyer. Anyone who wants cap space could trade for him and cut his non-guaranteed contract.
