Rivers' Contract With Celtics Contains Non-Compete Clause

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Jun 15, 2013 3:50 pm

Doc Rivers has a non-compete clause in his contract with the Boston Celtics.

The clause reads that Rivers cannot work for another NBA team for the duration of his contract. Rivers has three years and $21 million remaining on the deal.

Danny Ainge could allow Rivers to leave and become head coach of another team in exchange for draft picks and cash considerations.

Well they can't be traded. But in this situation it means Danny Ainge will waive the clause, allowing Doc to be a head coach elsewhere. And in a separate transaction do a trade for some picks/cash considerations.

If he wants to leave, why the hell would Danny be so hard on him to go? Doc deserves a chance to go to contending team, he's been nothing but class and Ainge will only let him go if they get a bunch of picks back?

Celtics gonna try to milk their vets and coach for all they can if they rebuild.

I would love to see a coach trade.

Exactly. I'd tell Danny that I am not negotiating any deal with Rivers. It's Garnett, he's a player. Rivers is a coach. If you want to deprive him of leaving and going to another team, that's on you.
