I can't see him controlling Rondo. I like the hire though

Its a great time for Boston to take a risk and hire an unknown and theoretically this could be a good hire. I wouldn't call this hiring a move in the direction towards tanking, Boston saw an opportunity and gave Stephens a shot. I do wonder if Stephens could've held out for a better coaching situation though. While Boston is a franchise with a lot of history it certainly isn't built to be a winner in 2013-14 so Brad better brace for a tough season.

I like this hire. Good young coach. Bring some fresh new ideas to the league.

As a Celtic fan I am glad to see that he got a 6 year contract. That way he is not just being set up for failure. It does not take a rocket scientist to know that the Celtics roster is not the best right now. He is given proper time to make something happen there.

I like this move. Far too often you get the same coaches making the rounds to different teams every offseason. This guy deserves a chance

I swear I don't know if this move is so the Celtics can rebuild or try and make the playoffs. I'm also not sure if this means Rondo is on the trade block or not.

I like this coach, good move by the Celtics but there is no way Rondo can play for Stevens. Stevens is used to very high character 100% motor guards and Rondo does not fit that mold. Leads me to believe that Rondo will be dealt before the end of the year.

100% Motor guards? You can't do that in the NBA with a starter. There are too many games. They play 3, 4, sometimes 5 games a week. If you want a guy to even try to play that way, you should have a backup you are prepared to play a lot of minutes.

For years now, nobody on the Celtics out works Rondo. Not even precious Avery Bradley. Look what happened at the end of this season when the C's needed AB to play at BOTH ends of the floor like Rondo always has to; his game fell off dramatically.

Ignorant fans want the 120% Rondo brings to every playoff game to show up for every regular season game and it's just not possible. He still is the hardest working player on both teams on most nights. Playing too hard and not resting enough is why he has an ACL injury now. He should have been resting for weeks before it, you could see he was having trouble guarding some quick but second tier guards. He was worn down and when you play worn down you get injured.

please stop, ive been following Rondo since high school, his D has fallen off and he has become lazy on his one on one coverage. Hes he is more aggressive now on the offensive end but dont think for a second that Rondo is giving it 100%. He has only given full effort a handfull of games the last two seasons and those games were nationally televised.

I figured they would sign a cheap (super cheap) head coach as they rebuild. This is still a good pickup.

so much for the "we are not tanking" message. I know they will "try real hard", but if the goal was to win they would have brought in an established coach and not traded away the best 2 players and not be involved in free agency. sorry, I know I am stating the obvious here. I am not questioning the strategy... this could work. they were not gonna win with players who couldn't play major minutes anymore. looking to get perhaps a top 8 pick in next years draft, then let humpfries contract expire, look to lure top free agent for 15 season, and package 15, and 16 no 1's (4 in total) in a deal to add major player. maybe even move rondo to get a another franchise guy once they get rondo healthy.

I don't think the Pitino comparison is fair, 2 total different people and he isn't trying to make all the player decisions while coaching. Brad will do at a minimum a good job. Time will tell if he will go a good enough job to carry them to a championship.
