Howard To Sign Four-Year Max Contract With Rockets, ETO Available In 2016

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Jul 6, 2013 6:07 pm

Dwight Howard will sign a four-year, $88 million max contract with the Houston Rockets.

The deal will include an early termination option for Howard after the 15-16 season and a 15 percent trade kicker. Howard will be able to become a free agent in either 2016 or 2017.

Howard could sign a five-year maximum contract with the Rockets in 2016, or elect to change teams again.

You're right, he's actually worth more. But with the current CBA, the max contract is set low enough that the best players are also the best bargains.

I think Dwight's hope is to eventually land in Brooklyn in 2016. In 2016, Brooklyn will have the cap room to offer him a max deal with all their contracts coming off the books. Durant is also a free agent that year as well as Deron Williams. Big 3 in the Big Apple coming soon.

ROFL, hearing these lakers fans and LA media thinking that they will land 1 or more of Bosh, Wade, Lebron or Melo in 2014. I don't see the heat breaking up next year after winning two titles. Lebron will probabaly do what cp3 did this year and commit to the heat on the first day of next year's free agency without meeting any other teams. I think Lebron has learned and grown a lot from the circus that was the Decision. And Honestly do the Lakers think Melo will leave the glamour of new york and his own extra 30 million in a fifth year to come play for d'antoni again in LA. When Amare, Chandler and Bargnani's contracts come off the books in 2015, knicks will have enough cap room to give Melo a max deal while being able to chase 1 or more of the 2015 free agents like Lamarcus Aldridge, kevin Love, Marc Gasol or Rajon Rondo. The money those players would have to give up in a fifth year would easily be replaced by the marketing potential and vast endorsements they would receive playing in NYC - the biggest media and sports market in the usa

@Sam195....

You do a nice job of thinking all Laker fans want James or Melo. Dude this depends on the age of the posters, anybody over 30 and closer to 45 should be smart enough to know damn well those guys aren't leaving.

Myself personally I like 2015 much better, that's where a team can be built from.

So according to YOU Lakers are doomed now that Howard is gone. They should just do a firesale and sell the team to Seattle or somebody thats willing to take a chance on rebuilding a broken down has been no superstar willing to sign team like the Lakers.

My God some of you posters never seem to amaze me.

Why would they sell the team most of their season tickets were renewed before Howard left. They are going to be profitable regardless of what happens. Lakers need Kobe to take time with his recovery, sittting out the entire season is crazy. lakers need to pull the classic tank job and hope like there's no tommorow that they will win the wiggins sweepstakes. In Stern's first draft lottery as commissioner he allegedly rigged it so knicks would get Ewing. Well maybe Adam Silver can help another big market team his firs year while there down. If lakers tank, i see wiggins in their future.

88 mill is too much for Howard....about 15 mill too much.
