Heat Amnesty Mike Miller

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jul 16, 2013 7:08 pm

The Miami Heat have waived Mike Miller using their amnesty provision.

The Heat will save $17 million in taxes, though Miller will still collect $13 million in salary over the next two seasons.

Sad news, but it's hard to argue with the logic. This move makes a lot of sense.

And now watch the Heat ship Udonis Haslem, Mario Chalmers, and a 2017 first round pick to Milwaukee for Brandon Jennings.

Nah, Milwaukee will just ask for Miami's next decade worth of second round picks.

If they had amnestied him prior to July 1 wouldn't they have been able to resign him?

In any event, you figure the Clippers, Rockets, Knicks, Bulls and Thunder will be interested in bringing him on on the cheap.

I'd love to have him back but the Nets will probably sign him if he clears waivers.

Mike Miller really needs to retire, he moves like an 85 year old man out there. He is clutch and can hit those 3s though so I guess he's gonna keep toughing it out.

The skillset of "stand behind the arc and wait for LeBron's pass" is something he has mastered.

Miller can go sign with a contender so amnestying him isn't a disloyal move.

They'd never trade Haslem to a non-contending team.

Brandon Jennings is a typical addition by subtraction type of player. A terrible move if the Heat did this. They certainly aren't dumb enough to do this.

Sad to see him go, but he is done. He plays a few games a year due to injuries, and will show up for 2 or 3 games in the playoffs, but that's it.

He should probably retire. He got an amazing ride with 2 championships and highlights of him making it rain on the OKC Thunder in the finals.

Mike Miller's underrated; I think this was a bad decision. The Heat were deadly with two of the best three-point shooters in the league on their team to go along with LeBron and D-Wade's ability to drive to the basket.

I get it. Mike can't guard anybody. But he's one of (if not the) best passing swingmen in the league, and he rebounds very well for his position. If you look at the metrics it's clear he's very effective in limited playing time.

Granted, he wasn't worth his contract, but Miami wasn't paying that much tax money, and they're going for a three-peat. Back-to-back championships more than justify $17M in taxes in my opinion.

Chaos Engine knew what the smart move was. Joel Anthony or Mike Miller? It should've been an easy decision. Ownership was either cheap or stupid with this move. Penny-wise, pound-foolish.

Once again we are reminded that basketball is a business and sacrifices must be made for the greater good.

Mike's had poor health but managed to hit some big shots from time to time. I see him either retiring with two championships or provided he can stay off the doctor's table, find employment with another contender that requires a sharp-shooting veteran off the bench.
