Prokhorov Willing To Pay Record Luxury Tax Bill For Shot At Championship

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 19, 2013 3:42 pm

Mikhail Prokhorov explained his willingness to shell out more than $100 million in player salaries for next season – a number that will trigger an NBA-record luxury tax bill of about $80 million.

“When I bought the team, I promised to create a championship contender, a team worthy of Brooklyn,” said Prokhorov. “I’ll be proud when we win the championship. I am not a man of procedure. I am a man of results.”

Prokhorov reiterated his goal of winning a title by 2015.

“In the NBA, money, it’s important, but you can’t buy a championship only spending money. What’s most important is to put pieces together [for] a championship contender,” he said. “Frankly speaking, I’ll do whatever I can to reach the championship here in Brooklyn. It was the goal when I bought the NBA team. From inside, for me there is only one place and that’s first place.”

Knicks all day -- KG you washed up, Pierce you washed up, Joe Johnson you washed up, Jason Terry you washed up, D-Will you not even a top 10 point guard anymore, Brook Lopez you got broken feet-

That's why we play the games, everyone looks good in October

Teams are very fortunate when they have owners such as Cuban or Prokorov

While I get that you're just talking, I am curious to see which 10 point guards you think are better than D-Will. I'm not a huge fan of him, but I do think he's in the top 10.

This is why a hard cap is needed in basketball. I hope they beat the Heat but I doubt it. But hey 80 million is luxury tax for maybe a first round series win for the Nets.

Not everyone can assemble the dream team of Raymond Felton and Amar'e Stoudamire.

Quite funny to hear a Knicks fan complain about a team playing guys who are 'washed up' or injured. I seem to remember a certain Knickerbocker by the name of Jason Kidd who dropped an amazing 0.9PPG in last years playoffs. Oh, and what about the Knicks highest-paid player, where was he during the playoffs? Oh that's right, injuries.

wish i had 80 million dollars to burn. injury is more likely for older players so coach kidd needs to manage the minutes carefully.

I have no idea how this guy is not the new villain of the nba, he even looks evil. all he has is the $$$, if they got hollins to coach for them they would be in good shape but instead they got a rookie coach in their one year window

Lol. Jealousy creates ignorance; just cause the nets are better then your knicks you don't have to be delusional.

It's not about the country. It's about his alleged ties to Russian Mafia.

If a team goes 150% over the cap, they should have to forefit their draft pick for that season and that draft pick goes into a lottery.

This team is not a shot at a championship. This team at best goes out in the second round of the playoffs. They aren't even as good as the Knicks right now. He's just donating a lot of money to the league.
