Heat, Lakers Also Expressed Interest In Austin Daye

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jul 31, 2013 4:32 pm

Austin Daye agreed to sign with the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday, but he also received interest from the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers.

Daye was the No. 15 overall pick in 2009 by the Detroit Pistons after two seasons at Gonzaga.

Daye was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies last January.

if both those teams could only give him the minimum he rejected those deals for about 200k more a year.

I think the deciding factor was that he probably saw that he could showcase his game more on a team like Toronto and then hopefully land a better contract. I would've signed with LA though since they are all over the place with Kobe out and Dwight gone, he could've been nice there. Look what Earl Clark got paid showcasing his game in LA.

Hope he saves that extra money he was chasing. If he doesn't try to improve his game his next few contracts will be in Euros.

Well, he could easily make the same money in Europe. Maybe it would be a smart decision if he fails with Raps.
Alan Anderson is another example. He was a star in europe and could possibly ged a big paycheck there, but instead he's signing with the Nets where he'll be buried on the bench.

how did he get more money from Toronto? It was the vet's minimum, he'd get the same in Miami and LA.

Also it's worth noting this might be the first time Toronto ever beat out Miami and LA in a FA signing. Big market here we come.

This.

Plus the fact that he won't get that much time on the floor since he will backing up Rudy Gay (possibly Novak and Fields too).
