NBA Owners Vote To Reimburse Thunder $8M For Durant's Contract Under New CBA

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Aug 1, 2013 1:59 am

The NBA owners have voted to reimburse the Oklahoma City Thunder a sum of $8 million for the gap between Kevin Durant's contract under the old collective bargaining agreement and the new on that was agreed upon in December of 2011.

Durant's deal became a super-max due to his presence on All-NBA teams.

The $8 million is half of the gap between the two contracts for Durant.

It makes no sense for the NBA to reimburse OKC for Durant's pay bump. OKC chose to sign Durant to a contract that would increase to a super max deal if he made All-NBA teams. They knew at the time that contentious CBA talks were looming that could result in a new CBA that would make such a contract difficult for them to afford. The new CBA has been extremely hard on a lot of teams. It's not right for the league to give OKC assistance to help them avoid or minimize the financial consequences they should get under the current CBA.

it's just money here, not cap space. so I don't really care, they can run their business how they want
