Team Canada Working To Adapt To International Officiating

Tristan Thompson, Andrew Nicholson and Cory Joseph shot a combined 8-for-28 from the floor in Canada’s 81-72 exhibition win over Jamaica on Thursday.

Thompson and Nicholson both were angered at times by the indifference of the referees.

“When we play overseas, when we play in South America, that’s the way the game is,” Jay Triano said.

“You could see Tristan and Andrew a little bit frustrated … I don’t know if Andrew’s had anybody run at him and bump him and Tristan’s got to learn that a technical foul (which Thompson took out of anger) counts as a personal foul and, one of those early in the game could take minutes away from him on the floor and we need him on the floor.”

Canada is preparing for the FIBA Americas tournament that starts Aug. 30 in Venezuela.

“We have to learn the rules, we have to learn the tendencies,” Triano said. “It’s a different game and I think that’s why we’re trying to play as many exhibition games as we can before we go into competition when it matters.”

Yes because of scouting reports and game strategies, a coach is gonna just read through the rule book pre-game.
