Kidd: Garnett 'Probably' Won't Play Back-To-Backs Next Season

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Aug 17, 2013 4:46 am

Kevin Garnett might not play in back-to-back games next season as the Brooklyn Nets make a concerted effort to keep the veteran forward fresh for the final stretch of the year.

“We’ve talked about it that there’s going to be (minutes restrictions). When you look at KG, probably no back-to-backs for him,” Jason Kidd said. “Those are just topics we’re talking about, throwing around to keep these guy’s minutes down because we are deep. …You want to be fresh going into the playoffs.”

Garnett is the oldest starter on a lineup with an average age of 31.6.

Garnett has not played more than 71 games since joining the Celtics in 2007-08.

Will the Nets get fined like the Spurs did for resting their stars in the regular season?

No, Pop only did because he sent them packing. If he had kept them on the bench, there probably wouldn't have been an issue. But, it was also a big game against the defending champs and a finals precursor. So unless KG, Peirce, AK, and some of their other vets sit in those big market games then there shouldn't be a fine.

unless nets are fighting for a playoff spot (which they shouldn't), KG should be getting enough rest. lawrence frank is a good assistant for kidd to let him know how to manage minutes.

The article was correct...he hasn't played more than 71 games since joining the Celtics. He's played a full season before...obviously.

This plan worked out great for Shaq back in Phoenix, im sure it will for Kevin too. I remember that every time Shaq rested the difference was obvious.

Meh it's still a grey area I think. There has to be a chance the league sees something wrong in this course of action.
