Warriors' Front Office Approaches Job As 'Let's Try To Get Better'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Aug 22, 2013 4:46 pm

The Golden State Warriors somewhat surprisingly acquired Andre Iguodala this offseason. With Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes on rookie contracts to play the wing, the move was somewhat of a surprise.

"For us, we don’t really label our philosophy as much as just say, let’s try to get better, and if we see an opportunity that makes sense for us—financially, team-wise, chemistry-wise—let’s do it," said Bob Myers.

The Warriors also pursued Dwight Howard despite being considered a longshot due to the necessity of the Los Angeles Lakers agreeing to a sign-and-trade in those scenarios.

That's a good approach - "Lets get better". This is why our FO is among the best in the game.

Doesn't it feel good to finally be able to say that?

Bob Myers, Jerry West, and the entire front office are doing a good job. Is it great? No. It has some flaws just like any other organizations.

Looking Back:
1) They signed Steph Curry for another 4 years at a cheap contract that's if he stays healthy.
2) They drafted really well last year with Harrison Barnes, Festus Ezeli, Draymond Green, and Ognjen Kuzmic who is currently stashed in Europe developing his game as a center.
3) They also scouted and signed an undrafted rookie Kent Bazemore who not only brings entertainment, but can really be a rotation player on any NBA team especially with his length and defense. He brings good depth at SG.
4) They even got players wanting to sign here with Andre Iguodala (overpaid IMO), Marreese Speights, Jermaine O'Neal, and Toney Douglas. All 4 guys will be key rotation players if they can stay healthy.
5) Lastly, can't forget trading Dorell Wright for Jarrett Jack and the signing of Carl Landry last year during free agency. Both were tremendous on and off the court. They had a huge impact for this organization and the Bay Area. Both will be truly missed.

Concerns:
1) They did a nice job developing Klay's game and brought him in slowly to get used to the NBA, but the question is can he be more consistent? Can he get to the free throw line? Can he drive and finish around the rim? Will he accept a lesser role and be the 6th man of the year candidate kind of player where he fits best? Will he demand top SG money?
2) Can Bogut stay healthy and be the defensive anchor that the Warriors desperately need at center? Is he going to demand top center money or in general, a lot of money after this season?
3) Will the unprotected 2014 1st round pick, unprotected 2017 1st round pick (this one especially), 2016 2nd round pick, and 2017 2nd round pick to Utah haunt us at the end even though they got rid of awful Richard Jefferson, the worthless Andris Biedrins, and if healthy, a solid role player Brandon Rush?
4) I don't think the Warriors needed to add two 2nd round picks and Brandon Rush. Some team would of offer a 2nd round pick alone for Brandon Rush's three point shooting ability and his defense. 2014 top 10 protected 1st round pick, 2017 top 10 protected 1st round pick, Richard Jefferson, and Andris Biedrins is enough of a trade offer to Utah. The Jazz wasn't going to compete this season and they got plenty of salary cap so why not absorbed two bad expiring contracts while grabbing two 1st round picks in return? Those two 1st round picks are assets to a team like the Jazz that is rebuilding for the future. 76ers is another team that the Warriors could of talk to if the Jazz turns down the trade offer.

@royal -- Klay is starting SG. Barnes is 6th man.

Yea seems like Coach Jackson is going to give the start to Klay at SG with Iguodala at SF, but if Klay continues to be his old self, which is being inconsistent, I wouldn't be surprise if Coach Jackson switch it up and start Iguodala at SG with Barnes at SF. That's IF Barnes shows that he should start over Klay. At the end of the day, all three going to get 28+ minutes a game so hopefully, no pride or ego gets involve.
