Derrick Rose Believes Season Off Improved His Basketball IQ

Derrick Rose will begin his comeback in earnest on Saturday as he steps onto the floor for a live game for the first time since April 2012.

Rose believes missing the entire season allowed him to fully heal and also become a better student of the game.

"It helped me out a lot," Rose said. "Learning the tendencies of players, learning how my teammates play without me. Just knowing their strengths and knowing how (Tom Thibodeau) calls plays. I think my IQ of the game definitely grew as a player."

How do you become a better student of the game by NOT playing? That makes absolutely no sense.

I'm sure he also saw Shawn Marion stick to his ass like glue and Dirk Nowitzki hoisting up the Larry O'Brien that year too.

And to the other person, you can still be a "student of the game" by watching a **** ton of film, etc. Kobe does it, hell I'm sure plenty of other players (and coaches) watch a **** ton of film too.

Derrick Rose has already proven he can do most everything physically on the basketball court. You don't play the game and magically become a smart basketball player. You need to STUDY the game, and learn where and when to make the moves that you've learned on the court.

He didn't return in the playoffs because he didn't feel he could beat a double-team consistently. Somehow through not playing he's become a better shooter, player, and more intelligent player. I doubt them all. No question most of his teammates have already began to doubt his intentions.

I feel most basketball fans are idiots, they are still talking about Rose not coming back and that it was a bad thing. It was the best thing from him and the bulls for him to sit out the year. They weren't going to win a championship last year, Rose wasn't fully healthy and the risk f re injuring the knee was high. Example Michael Redd, he came back early and blow the knee out again. No his career is over. Rose puts so much stress on his joints and ligaments that it wasn't worth him coming back. If he came back and hurt himself again it would have set the bulls back 10 years. Also he can become a better player by not playing, look at peyton Manning, he as great as he is because he is a student of the game. That is all rose could do last year, so if he learned out to become a student it will only benefit him. Also he has had time to work on his jumper. All in all I'm glad he didn't play.

I love the Bulls, but if I had torn my ACL and the doctors had cleared me to play and I had practiced for 3 months and Luol Deng was in the hospital, I would have been back on the court Kobe style trying to win a championship.

We know you love Derrick Rose like a girlfriend but as a fan I would suggest holding him to a slightly higher standard. Lets see if he makes it through the year Allen Iverson style or if he is missing every 4th game "to stay fresh for the playoffs" life an aging KG or Dwayne Wade....

I dont think that other guy gets the meaning of rest. Rose has to have patience. He is MVP for a reason.
