GM: Silver Cares More About Monetization Than Integrity Of Game

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Oct 23, 2013 5:29 pm

Adam Silver will take over for David Stern in February as commissioner of the NBA.

Silver is believed, by at least one general manager, to have a stronger focus on monetization than Stern.

“I don’t know how much he thinks about the integrity of the game,” the GM said. “He’s more about selling widgets.”

Ric Puker should have challenged the GM to provide examples of Silver choosing monetization over integrity of the game. I don't believe that just because the NBA is seeking greater revenue streams means that integrity is sacrificed, but I could be more convinced if specific instances were cited.

Televising the lottery balls? Bad for monetization.

The fact that 1/2 the teams will be wearing sleeved jerseys next year is a good indication as well. Not to mention all the "special" jerseys. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Plus the upcoming advertisements on in-game jerseys. I'm really worried Silver is going to be terrible. Worse than Stern. Go figure.
