Iman Shumpert underwent a second surgery on his left knee and is currently being packaged by the New York Knicks in proposed trades for Rajon Rondo and Omer Asik, according to a source.

Shumpert had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last July that the Knicks never reported. He originally tore the ACL and meniscus in his left knee against the Miami Heat during Game 1 of the 2012 NBA Playoffs.

Danny Ainge appears unlikely to deal Rondo to the Boston Celtics' rival in New York. The Houston Rockets, meanwhile, appear set to trade Asik at some point this season.

The Knicks reportedly want to deal Stoudemire, whose bloated contract doesn't expire until after next season, while Felton's value has never been lower with the point guard underperforming this season. Felton has been playing with a hamstring injury.

The general feeling around the NBA is that Shumpert will be traded sooner than later. Shumpert was in reported trade talks between the Knicks and Denver Nuggets centered on Kenneth Faried.

i could see shump for asik n being able to trade amare would be a major plus, can't see them trading for rondo

Asik wants to be a starter though. When Tyson returns, he'll be in a similar predicament, although to a lesser extent simply because Dwight> Tyson.

But then again, its not his decision. I'm sure Houston isnt looking for his best interest- they just want him gone.

So an injury prone scrub with multiple knee surgeries and a career average of only 8.3 ppg on 40% shooting is worth a 4-time All-Star like Rajon Rondo now? Or even Omer Asik, who averaged 10.1 ppg and 11.7 rpg last season?

If Shumpert was a free agent right now, I doubt any team would even offer him the Full MLE. I always knew the Knicks were delusional, but this is one is just plain ridiculous. Why not offer Amare Stoudemire for LeBron James and a conditional first round pick as well?

The Knicks are clueless. No chance Rondo goes to New York. Boston is in full tank mode, so wouldn't want anyone the Knicks have to offer. Plus, no chance Shumpert is worth Rondo. Asik may get shipped to New York if NY throws in someone of value, like... nevermind they don't really have anyone of value, except maybe Tim Hardaway Jr. NO CHANCE Houston or anyone takes on Amar'e $40 million contract, regardless of who they try to package with him.

Let's get this straight for all the NBA fans who follow the game of basketball. The Knicks want to get Omer Asik or Rajon Rondo for just Iman Shumpert? A guy that is pretty much 40% from the field, had two knee surgeries, is not a scorer, pretty much a average role player for a double-double machine or a top 10 PG? Geeze, the Knicks think they might be able to trade Amare for Kevin Love and Raymond Felton for Klay Thomspon next. PG=Rondo, SG=Klay, PF=Love, SF=Carmelo, and C=Chandler

Asik's salary is like 8 million and Shumpert's is only like 1.5 million so you would need 2nd team to acquire Asik if you are the Knicks

That's about as delusional as it gets. I can see MAYBE pulling off shumpurt for Asik, but even then I'm sure Morey would require NY to throw in a Draft pick or 2

A more realistic trade offer would be Shumpert for someone like Varejao. A injury player for another injury player you can say haha! Let's face it. The Cavs should of drafted Oladipo who is a high energy, defensive SG that is explosive and plays off the ball instead of Bennett. The Cavs can't go back and redo the draft, but Shumpert can be that high energy, defensive SG similar to Oladipo and have Dion Waiters on the trade market considering what has been going on with him and the team lately.

Not sure if you noticed, but Rondo isn't wearing street clothes because he wants to be the best dressed guy at the games. He's kinda hurt too.....

Not to mention Boston has tried to trade Rondo for the past 2 years without any luck! His game is very specific; he has no outside shot and doesn't usually kick out after a drive; 2 very distinct features the top point guards in the league have! His injuries are starting to be a problem and if Boston is going to rebuild, by the time they put together a young team that can compete, Rondo will be on the decline. the BEST thing they could do is trade Rondo to NY for a your defensive minded 2/3 in Shumpert and force NY to take Gerald Wallace's (injury issues as well) and Courtney Lee's (averaging 17 minutes a game) 3 year contracts... With STAT in the deal, next season is his expiring year and could be used to trade for players that a team is looking to dump or just let it expire... then in the 2015 Season when there could be one of the best free agent markets in a long time, the Celtics would have more money to spend than any other team in the NBA!!!!!

If management doesn't believe that he can handle being the starting point guard for a rebuilding team, they might trade him away. Additionally, they have no idea what Rondo will be like coming back from an ACL tear. Players can come back in 8 to 12 months, but typically (yes, there are exceptions) it takes 20 to 24 months to return to pre-tear performance levels.
Is there a better way to stick it to the Knicks than taking STAT -one of the few 'healthy' centers that they have-, Shump -their best wing defender and only young tradable asset-, and giving them back a point guard who needs the ball in his hands just like Melo, which might lead to flow and chemistry issues? Add to that fact Rondo might not return to top 10 PG form until next season, when Melo can opt out at the end of this year? It could be the trade that forces Melo out of NYK, and I think Ainge would take no small amount of pride in that fact.
On the Boston side of the trade, the Celtics only have 2 guaranteed contracts and 1 player option on the books for the 2015-2016 season. Gerald Wallace, Courtney Lee are the guaranteed contracts and Jeff Green is the player option. If the Celtics can flip Wallace and Lee for a contract that expires sooner, they will have (including next year's draft pick's potential cap hit) only 17 million on the books for 2015-16. Add cap holds for open roster spots, and the Celtics could have 42 million in cap room (assuming a salary cap of 63 million). If the Celtics can trade away Rondo, they won't get a midseason boost. Tanking goes off without a hitch. They add a Wiggins, Parker, Randle in this draft. Next year they add another lottery pick. Now we have a superstar in the making, a second lottery pick from the 2015 draft, a good wing defender in Iman, an athletic forward in Green, and the room to add 2 max contract players.

It hurts to lose Rondo, but there are certainly reasons why Danny Ainge would keep the phone lines open.

I was thinking it would help the tanking effort Boston is putting up and who else aside from the Knicks can be played like this. My only hope is that Rondo somehow makes it work in NY if it happens. Yes, I'm a Knicks fand and yes I know we suck.
