Report: Steve Nash Giving Serious Thought To Medical Retirement

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Nov 19, 2013 6:19 pm

Steve Nash is giving serious thought to medical retirement as he continues to battle chronic back issues.

If Nash is given a medical retirement, he would receive the full amount owed to him by the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers, meanwhile, would have Nash's entire $9.701 million contract for next season come off their cap. If Nash isn't traded or becomes a medical retirement, the Lakers could use their stretch provision to waive him and have his cap number be allocated over the following three seasons.

I'm sure Raptors and Knicks fans are rejoicing, considering the assets they were willing to give up to get him 2 summers ago, that they were denied.

Wow, if this is true it's a really disappointing end to Nash's career.

I guarantee you the Raptors would trade for him in a heartbeat, even if their GM is a whiz...
Canada would burn his house down if they didn't make a trade for him if it was made available.

Watch the Knicks trade Shumpert for Nash. I'm a Knicks fan and know this is a possibility.

It was apparent the 2012/2013 was Nash's last hurrah. after putting up with a complete team dismantling in Phoenix he thought all the pieces were there in LA to make a run. With Kobe out, Howard gone and Artest traded, there is nothing left for Nash here and it's easy to see why he'd be ready to hang it up. This end vaguely reminds me of Karl Malone.

Nash is a first ballot hall-of-famer, and has a second career all setup in running Basketball Canada.

As a Suns fan, if this happens, I'm disappointed that we couldn't sign him to a 1 day contract or something (if that's allowed in the NBA) and let him retire a Sun.

Only if the Suns agree to take D'Antoni back as well.

With the back injury and who knows what other injuries he's been dealing with over the years, he should just retire. His health is more important and it's not like he'll be having a problem collecting a paycheck. The Lakers will pay him the remaining amount of money left on his contract.

How about you learn how to spell "honor" before you start questioning the cowardness of a 39 year old, two-time NBA MVP.

Unfortunately for Lakers fans trying to salvage their season at the expense of an injured hall of famer, Peter Vesey's source's are often just the voices in his head. Imaginary.

Haha, that's hilarious. Isn't it cowardice? Not cowardness? Cowardness is a real work but only ever used in England. Nice try at a slam though. Nash is a stud. He was the catilist (intentionally mispelled- also intentionally misspelled) to the best show in the NBA for at least 2 years. He deserved both MVPs. The guy is just old now and doesn't have the benefit of whatever juice they give players in Phoenix to revive them (i.e. Jermaine O'Neal, Nash, Grant Hill).
