The Chicago Bulls are the frontrunner to sign D.J. Augustin after he clears waivers.

The Toronto Raptors released Augustin on Monday.

The Bulls are thin at point guard with the injury to Derrick Rose and struggles for Marquis Teague.

Him and Kirk Hinrich will make an awesome one-two punch! Underachieving together is better than underachieving alone.

I don't know - all that bench sitting in Toronto...maybe he's there for DRose to have a bench buddy, keep him entertained and moral up while he's out of commission until next year. He does have lots of XP in that area

If he signs elsewhere, does that mean the Raptors don't pay him? or is his second salary, added to what we owe him?

I still don't understand why the Bulls didn't keep Nate Robinson, he was a big part of their success last year. Now they're looking to sign Augustin?

I am going to SAS on you and say that disrespectful and then go Skip Bayless also by saying that's asinine 9,10, and 11 to Kirk Heinrich.

nobody is more proud of this pick up then me. I been all over this since I heard he got waived. hes actually the pg I thought the bulls would've drafted if it wasn't for getting the number 1 pick. extremely gifted pg that has fell off dramatically and hopefully the bulls can get his game back going. hes turned into more of a spot up shooter lately but hes quick and does penetrate well. the tank is over for now. nice pick up

Not a bad move at all. Fell out of the rotation in TOR and now he can get a chance to get minutes for Chicago.

This can't be a move that Thibs has approved, which is no surprise since he's always clashing with the front office. Front office doesn't care about winning this year, and Thibs cares about winning all the time. Augustin has lost it, his confidence in the NBA is at an all time low. While on the Pacers he crumbled under the pressure of being on a contender (and essentially being blamed for a horrid bench), and never really recovered. With Toronto, he should have been the consensus 2nd PG and could've rebuilt his with career with little pressure, but instead he disappointed every time he was on the floor. Dwight Buycks and Juylan Stone got minutes over him....who are they? exactly. Some can try to argue that the Raps were trying to tank, but we really weren't until the Rudy trade when Ujiri decided the team was completely mediocre (thank god).

If the Bulls wanted to compete this year like they did last, they should be pursuing a Kyle Lowry trade. Perfect one-year rental who is playing the best ball of his career, is in a contract year, and wants to win more than anything. He'd be even more effective for the Bulls than Nate was last year. On the Bulls he'd be enough to make them a #3 team in the horrid east. Next year they can let him walk just in time for Rose to come back. Toronto wont ask for any major assets either, just picks/prospects. He's doing only harm for us in Toronto, bringing us the odd win here and there.

In Tom Thibodeau's system the point guards have a well defined role and it helps their performance...see that average players like Mike James, John Lucas III and C.J. Watson had their best stretches in Chicago...Nate Robinson, in turn, played like an all star last year. That's why I'm optimistic about D.J. tenure with the Bulls

If I were a NBA point guard, I would instruct my agent to place me in an Mike D'Anthony's or Thibodeau's team. Indiana doesn't provide a good system to showcase point guard skills...G.Hill is plays more as an off the ball shooter than a ball handler.

You are correct about the systems, but when a player simply sucks there is only so much a system can do for you offensively.

With C.J Watson his performance this year with the Pacers is quite similar to Chicago - in fact he is shooting better. Indiana's system doesn't really produce many assists for their point guards though.

The reason why I said my post earlier was in reference to "the tank is over for now". DJ is absolutely terrible on defense, and Chicago strives on playing defense. Under the circumstances Chicago is in, sure he is a good pickup to be a filler while they go through their point guard rotation problems.

If anyone thinks he is going to be some sort of game changer..you are in for a massive surprise. There is a reason why he accepted a $1.2 million dollar deal with Toronto - either that or he plays overseas.
