GMs, Scouts Back Off Julius Randle As Potential No. 1 Overall Pick

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jan 8, 2014 7:04 pm

Julius Randle started the season strongly with Kentucky, but expectations have been tempered by NBA scouts or general managers.

"NBA teams still like Randle, a lot, but I haven't really heard a team (GM or scout) say they'd take him No. 1 in over a month," wrote Chad Ford.

Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker are the likely candidates for the top overall pick, while Joel Embiid and Dante Exum are darkhorses.

I wouldn't think about taking him before pick 5
On Curry declining

How bad is he? Is he so bad he can't shoot to save his life? But seriously, how bad is he the first couple weeks of the season he was lighting it up, no?

I think he should definitely be a top 5, I wouldn't say he is more over hyped than any other of the prospects.

The only complete/ NBA ready players in this draft are Jabari and maybe Smart. Exum, Wiggins, and Randle have a huge ceiling, but I would consider them more of a risk.

Smart is dirty but he'll get passed over because he's not a big name and osu has a weak schedule... dudes lights out when he's on

I feel like Wiggins is overhyped. Not seeing the production I expected out of him. In all reality, unless he blossoms late in the year it would probably be in his best interest to play another year of college ball to round out his game. But we all know that's not gonna happen. That Parker kid is the most polished out of this bunch, then Randle and Embiid showing a combination of both potential and production. I see a Randle as a more explosive Zach Randolph who I expect to have to same career arch minus the early knucklehead sh*t

I agree with the comparison for Randle. Same type of rebounder and will score on put backs every time. Doesn't quite have the extended range that Z-bo has, but as you said, Randle is more explosive. The shot can be developed.

Randle's struggles this year have been when he gets doubled or tripled team and he tries to force too much, particularly when he catches the ball in the post. That shouldn't be a problem in the L. I just hope he doesn't end up like Thomas Robinson.

College ball, KU's system, and terrible guard play hinders Wiggins's strengths. He's going to look much better in the NBA. I agree he is over hyped though due to the knuckleheads in the media (ESPN) tout him as the "next LeBron" and "a generational talent". He's a great prospect, but let's pump the breaks.

He is strong as a bull but his above the rim athleticism is unimpressive. And he has very low defensive intangibles, not a shotblocker or a steals guy.

Pretty much. Looks like he will be dominant offensively and on the boards. Dude can jump out of the gym though. I think he isnt able to show what he can really do on kentucky.

He looks like a Zach Randolph with better handling, and longer range.
