Report: Tracy McGrady Attempting Pro Baseball Career

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Feb 1, 2014 7:05 pm

Tracy McGrady is reportedly attempting to pursue a career in professional baseball.

"Speaking real quickly of McGrady, I think he’s going to play independent league baseball as a pitcher this year," Jeff Van Gundy said on ESPN's NBA telecast on Friday night. "In the independent league, I’m being serious. I’ve heard from sources in Houston — seriously — that he’s throwing over 90 miles per hour.”

Van Gundy said McGrady would suit up for the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League if he decides to pitch.

McGrady played for the San Antonio Spurs last season and retired in the offseason. He was a seven-time NBA All-Star and two-time league scoring champion.

This isn't out of nowhere. T-Mac's first love was baseball and he had a great arm in Little League. He only got serious about basketball in high school.

Throwing 90mph is a dime a dozen in baseball. If he's serious about it, he will need to add an off-speed breaking ball, and be able to throw them for strikes consistently. Most prospects who have been doing it for 20 years never end up putting it all together to be effective.

He might get a minor league deal. But it won't be for his talent. It will be for the tickets he will sell.

Except for the fact that he actually has natural talent that is rare to most men. throwing 91 mph is quite impressive. Had he pursued baseball from the start, i'm sure he would have developed the right skills to nurture his talent and make him a decent pro.

Jordan never had a shot in a million years at being good at baseball lol. Tracy deserves the benefit of the doubt for now based on what he has displayed so far.
