Rudy Gay Unsure About $19.3M Option For 14-15

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Feb 5, 2014 8:48 pm

Rudy Gay is undecided if he'll opt out of his $19.3 million option for the 14-15 season.

Gay has played well since being traded to the Sacramento Kings in December.

"I'm not sure," said Gay. "I have to go into the summer with my people, think about everything, weigh out the pros and cons. I don't know yet. But Sacramento's been great to me thus far. Obviously I'm trying to tune it all out right now. All I can think about right now is how great Sacramento's been to me."

If he opts out he'll make around half that. Gay is worth 10 million a year.

he's worth more than that in my opinion. I'm not sure if his current production is sustainable but if he ends the season still playing this well i would think that he is good for 13-14 million but anything more than that is hurting your team.

Nene makes 13 million. Humphries is making 12 million. Eric Gordon at 14. Boozer at 15. Luol Deng is comparable at 14 million but he's looking for a raise in the offseason.

20 ppg on 50% shooting? Decent 3pt and ft%? Rebounds and assists are above average for a SF? I think he could be decent 2nd option on a playoff team or a 3rd option on a legit contender

I think if rudy's stock is high still at the end of the season, he should opt out and cash in on a 3 or 4 year deal

Well it would be dumb to turn down $19 million, but he''s actually improved since the trade so it might be smart to try and get a team to throw some $$$ at him.

I bet if he was still with the Raptors right now he'd option in without a doubt.

I would say around 10-14 million.

I wonder if he'll opt out and sign a 5 year 50-60 (or more) million dollar deal or opt in and wait until he's 29 but I don't know if that's a risk worth taking. Seems to me it's easier to bait a team right now with his level of play and production than at the age of 29.

There is no way he's opting out thinking that some team will give him more or even close to 19 mill

He's mitigating risk.

What's better, a 5-year $70 million contract (probably close to what he'll sign) or $19 million this year and an injury or lackluster season?

First of all the question was stupid, wtf was he supposed to say? These kinds of rehearsed responses are what NBA players are taught to say.

Rudy Gay would have be to hit by the stupid stick to turn down his option. Of course he's going to exercise it.

Yeah if he opts out he's a complete idiot as is his agent.

He's been thoroughly debunked as a hoax on multiple teams.
He can call Monta Ellis and ask him if he'd rather take 1/11 or even 3/36 instead of the 3/25 he got.
Monta will tell him--sometimes you can't "Have it all"

The Bucks offered Monta like 4/$46 in the off season and he turned it down. As a Bucks fan I'm quite thankful that he did.

Yeah but sometimes players will say the wrong thing, which is great for media. It never hurts to ask...

Nene makes 13 million >>> OVERPAID
Humphries is making 12 million >> OVERPAID
Eric Gordon at 14>>OVERPAID
Boozer at 15.>>OVERPAID

You'd be a terrible GM if your reason for paying Rudy Gay over 10 million was comparing his salary to a bunch of overpaid players.

Steph Curry makes 3.9 million
Lebron makes 19 million

He's done that about 25 games out of a 8 year career, if your saying "what he did in the last 25 games, if replicable over a long stretch, is worth more than 10 per" then I would not disagree, but we have a huge huge sample size of him being something else entirely.

true enough, ill admit my mistake

was just trying to enlighten the fact that the market, whether the current one or the one under the previous CBA where all these guys got paid has dictated that he should make more than just the 10 million the guy suggested for rudy's play
