Colangelo Admits Raptors Tanked During His Tenure

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Feb 28, 2014 9:49 pm

During a panel at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, Bryan Colangelo admitted that the Toronto Raptors were attempting to tank during his tenure.

"Admittedly, I will say I tried to tank a few years ago," said Colangelo.

The Raptors finished the 10-11 season with a 22-60 record (.268 winning percentage) and a 23-43 record in 11-12 (.348 winning percentage).

The Raptors drafted Jonas Valanciunas and Terrence Ross with the picks that came as a result of their record.

This clown needs to pipe down. No GM should ever, EVER admit to tanking. That is not a strategy that is basketball OR business oriented.

There is a reason he is unemployed, trolling the hallways of GoodLife Fitness on Bloor Street.

lol, I was thinking the same thing. In his defence though, jonas and ross have some potential(despite JV's struggles this season) so in the long run his tank might have actually worked.

Is he trying to become the next sports media personality? If so, I'd like to see some interviews with BC trying to explain his tenure with the Raptors lol

It would also be great if he admitted to having one of the worst tenures as a GM while he was with the Raptors...getting rid of him was the first step to success for Toronto, followed by dumping Gay/Bargnani

lol, he doesn't need another GM job, he's the only child to the wealthy Jerry Colangelo - the former owner of the phoenix suns and managing director of USA Basketball. I'm pretty sure he has access to all the money he needs. He also said repetitively during his tenure in Toronto that being a GM was more like a hobbie he really enjoyed than a real job

Why does the word "tanking" have such a negative connotation to it among the professionals? It's deferred gratification

i just reread this article hes says he wanted the coach to develop young players, the only young player he wanted them to develop was bargani.Sam Mitchell expose this in a interview on tsn and see how triano handle bargani just force feeding him mins without earning them and casey rotation's anybody who did well ed davis\amir\jval,was pulled for bargani who was shooting like 1 for 7,1 for 8 at three point line, not playing any defence and having absolutly no rebounds so hes telling half the truth like he did to the fanbase\media.

Has any GM done more damage to themselves and their reputation in recent years than Colangelo? I remember when he landed in Toronto, it was considered a major coup, as he was thought of as a brilliant basketball mind, and now he's a total joke.
It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.
