Phil Jackson Leaning Towards Taking Role As Knicks' Boss

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Mar 9, 2014 1:06 am

Phil Jackson is leaning toward accepting a front office job with the New York Knicks, according to a source.

Jackson's role would be president of basketball operations, in complete control of all basketball-related matters, according to the source.

Jackson could also become head coach next season, though that aspect of the deal is not yet settled.

Jackson is expected to make a decision with the next week.

lol @ Knicks fans thinking this will result in anything other than more disappointment when they realize even Phil Jackson can't fix their mess.

Its definitely a start. It will take some time to turn the franchise around but you will definitely see the difference

I really don't see it. As long as Dolan is in charge it will always be ****.

Hey Gore, I thought Phil was supposed to be a friend of yours. Why not make him an offer he can't refuse for The Pistons? Your team sucks big time right now!!!!

If Dolan would actually let him make all the basketball decisions, then he could turn it around. I doubt Dolan will let anyone else control the team though.

I'm not a knicks fan but I feel Phil would have a very positive impact on Melo, team culture, grooming a new coach, and attracting FAs.

Looking forward to seeing him in this role, ala Riley.

He could do what Pat Riley does for Miami Heat.....I am still convinced that Spolstra is a Riley's robot. No one has ever seen them in the same spot at same time. It is cause Riley is in a control room controlling Spolstra.

Lol who cares even if this is true. Being a great coach does not make youa great GM.

Phil Jackson is a winner so if it can be done he will make the Knicks relevant again and quickly. On paper they should be killing it!

Makes complete sense.

1) Phil played for the Knicks. So, full circle.

2) New York is the country's largest market. Media attention, etc.

3) The Knicks have been run incompetently for over a decade. Nowhere to go but up.

4) He can be seen as a savior, the guy who fixed the Knicks. The fans there are starving for success.

5) The team will always have a lot of money to spend.

It's the best job to have in Phil's situation. Be the Knicks' savior.

uhh on paper they should not be killing it. That roster sucks. Melos is good sure, but Felton is arguably the worst starting PG in the NBA, Chandler and JR are both overrated, the Knicks should have never cut Billups to get Chandler. JR had one good year and everyone acted like he was this great player. Amare isn't bad but he's way too injury prone and Shumpert isn't nearly as good as Knicks fans make him out to be. Hardaway JR is decent, but nothing special. It's really just melo.

I highly doubt that , he is 68 years old and has stated many times his health is not good enough to coach day-to-day. Plus even if he did , that would not solve any of the Knicks problems. (See Larry Brown 2005)
