Report: Knicks Confident Phil Jackson Deal 'Essentially' In Place

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Mar 11, 2014 3:25 pm

Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks are discussing a deal for him to run their front office and ESPN's Chris Broussard reports a deal could be finalized by the end of the week.

Jackson has never previously run a front office, but was linked to the ownership group that attempted to purchase the Sacramento Kings last season.

"Everything is pretty much done," the source said. "There are just some little things here and there that need to be worked out, but the Knicks are very confident that this is essentially done."

Jackson would take over the Knicks' basketball operations department from current president and general manager Steve Mills.

Didn't the same thing happen with the Lakers where everything was in place and contract was in place then no-go

Lakers should have just gave this man whatever he wanted.
On Gerald Henderson vs Derozan:
"Yes. Hendo is quite a bit better than DeMar.
So yes, I do believe he's currently the better player and do project that will continue to be in the future. I would also take Turner over DD."

I'd be very surprised if this actually goes through.

So basically nothing has happened yet these writers are trying to milk this for all its worth.

Tomorrows headline reads:

"Knicks Confident Phil Jackson Deal "Progressively" In Place.

Day after that:

"Knicks Confident Phil Jackson Deal "Almost: In Place.

I could do these guys job no problem

The Lakers have made some baffling decisions. If I'm a free agent I would stay as far away as possible, and these are the only 5 teams I would consider:

-New York Knicks
-Chicago Bulls
-Houston Rockets
-LA Clippers
-Golden State Warriors

Big market (Wealthiest metropolitan per capita and 5th largest in population) and a good front office.

If they were over spending for Kobe, why not over spend for Phil?

Your list of teams includes only top prospects there - FA for what? Riding the bench? Being the 11th man? Washington (playoff team in the weak east) has room for a contributor off the bench, I would consider going there as a FA. Other teams have plenty of potential if they can keep some of their core:

- Timberwolves
- Raptors
- Memphis
- Dallas
- Pelicans (although not there yet, they can be a playoff team with another good player on the roster)

Don't just take the top market/teams in the standings right now. OKC is one of the smaller markets and are doing just fine with a superstar(s) of their own...

So Phil is going to get Bargnani to play defense? This team is a lost cause, next!

To be fair, I think that was more Knicks fans that thought they were getting Lebron, and that was before the Knicks even talked to him. New York fans think they are getting the best players in every sport every year, but they almost never do.

I think he's smart enough to find a coach that wont give Bargnani any minutes.

Bargnani needs to go to the Italian B league and play ball there. I am sure all of the Raptor fans got together for a party once the Knicks agreed to take him from us...it was a great day for the Raptor organization.

Essentially is a far cry from completed. We'll see if this story holds any weight when all is said and done and Phil has a pen and paper in front of him.

It's sad but true. Andrea Bargnani is the worst player in the entire NBA.
On Gerald Henderson vs Derozan:

15 million and the dude can be in LA most of the time.
good to see the knicks embraced an analytical approach

why would you want someone running your organization who doesn't even have to be there? how stupid are these people?
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.
