Bulls Excited To Own Two 'Invaluable' First Round Picks

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Apr 21, 2014 3:51 am

The Chicago Bulls are excited to own the 16th and 19th overall picks in the 2014 NBA Draft.

“Yeah, because picks are invaluable,’’ Gar Forman said Sunday. “You’re capable of getting a couple of players that can help your team, and under the new CBA, you’re getting guys that are locked in contractually at very reasonable contracts. So in building a team, we’ve seen that draft picks are of extreme importance.’’

Forman elected to wait until all of the underclassmen make their decisions before declaring on the depth of the draft.

“Every year, you’ve got people speculating on whether it’s a strong draft, weak draft, whatever,’’ Forman said. “I think our philosophy has always been that there’s always opportunities in the draft, and it’s our job to find guys that fit our culture, our team, our organization. With two picks in the top 20, I think we have an opportunity to get two guys that can help us.’’

how good are the bulls going to be?
If they get Melo, 2 first rounders in this year's draft and DRose back next year?
Not gonna lie ... little jelly ...

I don't think Drose will ever be the same player again.

Rose is done - at least as a quality player, he might be useful as a 20 minutes per game type, definitely not worth the money he is paid. PG version of Amare.

haha he'll be 26 when the next season. It's too early to to say he can't be a quality player. If I remember right didn't Amare have a couple knee surgeries in Phoenix (I know they weren't the same exact injuries) and come back to be an absolute beast? Way too early to say Rose can't be a QUALITY player.

Thats a whole lotta 'ifs. They have a better chance at getting a couple of role players out of those mid round draft picks, and for what it will cost to obtain Melo, they will have to sell the farm.

Be prepared to give those up if you want to trade Gibson and/or Boozer to make space for Melo.

Lol @ "invaluable". They're middle first round picks. At best you can hope to get one decent role player out of the 2 picks. Sounds like they're talking them up because they want to trade them.

Can't they just amnesty Boozer? He's been a prime amnesty contract for years.

Invaluable because they are a GREAT excuse for "not being able" to offer Melo enough money in the summer.

They'll tell fans "Look, we went after Melo, because we really want to win, but we couldn't offer him more than 12 mil per year, so he went somewhere else. But hey, we got these 2 picks for you to build unrealistic hopes for. Now get your season tickets at only 15% more compared to last year."

you seem to forget that jimmy butler was the 30th and final pick of the 1st round and taj gibson was drafted at 26th.

the bulls know how to pick em, and thibs knows how to coach em.

Tom Penn outlined a scenario where if the Bulls keep Gibson and try and go after Melo, then they would have to:

1. Amnesty Boozer
2. Trade Dunleavy
3. Trade both 1st round picks

I think amnestying Boozer is a given, but I'm sure their ideal scenario is keeping Gibson, adding two first round picks on the cheap, and getting Melo

They've done a good job with late round draft picks Tony Snell (20th) Taj Gibson (26) Jimmy Butler (30) and they have an excellent track record with player development. They should be able to turn these picks into quality players.

Melo learned his lesson making Knicks trade all the piece's just to get him. If Melo goes to Bulls, he will go for much Cheaper. Bulls wont have to trade the farm to get him. Everyone loves there money yes but Melo is more interested in winning and being a contender then getting the BIGGEST contract. otherwise he will stay his ass in New York with Phil Jackson

Amare had microfracture surgery. Completely different situation.

Gibson was drafted 5 years ago, and Butler was 3 years ago. Both are solid role players. What about the guys you drafted in the other 3 years in that period? If anything you proved my point. Expect one of the two to be a solid contributor, but I wouldn't call the opportunity to draft the next Gibson or Butler 'Invaluable'.

don't let these players fool you when they say they want a championship over money. trust me melo wants at least 18 mill at least. he wont give the bulls a break and come here for 16 or less. this is his last big pay day. hes about to be 30 soon. I really doubt he excepts 18 mill. he prob wants 20 mill.hes going to be asked to do a lot of things for the bulls if he is signed first of all. and for the posters talking about rose. hes going to be fine. he has a injury that isn't considered to be that damaging to his career. hes fully over the acl injury which is the serious one. he will be the same player he's always been. should continue working on his jumpshot

We can Amnesty Boozer and trade Dunleavy for a non-guaranteed player, and with the salary cap raise we would have enough to sign Melo on a good contract AND bring in the draft picks, ie, Nikola Mirotic.

You can tell who the casual fans are when they start laughing at comments like the one that the Bulls made here. Also, when they laugh at Butler and Gibson being "invaluable". Because they are.

Not everyone HAS to draft a superstar. The Bulls already have Rose. They also have Noah as their other star. If they can get Melo while keeping Gibson, Butler, and their two first rounders, then all they'd need is role players from the draft.
