Knicks Fire Mike Woodson, Will Search For New Coach Immediately

The New York Knicks fired Mike Woodson and his coaching staff on Monday.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Mike Woodson and his entire staff,” Phil Jackson said in a statement. “The coaches and players on this team had an extremely difficult 2013-14 season, and blame should not be put on one individual. But the time has come for change throughout the franchise as we start the journey to assess and build this team for next season and beyond.

“Everyone in this franchise owes a great deal of gratitude to what Mike and his staff have done. We wish him the best.”

In parts of three seasons with the Knicks, Woodson compiled an overall record of 109-79 (.580) that included two consecutive NBA Playoff appearances and an Atlantic Division title – the team’s first in 19 years.

The search for a new coaching staff will begin immediately.

why did it take over an hour to report this after everyone else did?

...holysh*t its about time this sh*thead finally got axed...

no one owes the sh*thead any amount of gratitude...he didn't do anything for the knicks except drive them into the ground...

im very glad that they fired the entire staff too...herb williams is a f*cken curse on this organization...

Phil handed that with decency. Not every coach gets as much respect when getting canned.

very slim chance of that happening...there is bad blood between Van Gundy's and Jackson

If Phil Jackson waits another week he can add Mike D'Antoni to his list of coaching hire candidates.

(That's funny because for him to hire back to the New York Knicks the guy that got the job that many people thought he should have got coaching the Lakers.)

for all intents and purposes kerr's going to get the job. when the rumored kings move the Seattle was a possibility, kerr was going to be phil's choice.

He deserves a lot of blame.

His rotations suck. His lack of ability to draw up plays suck. He killed all the older vets last season by overplaying them. He lost a lot of winnable games this year due to his inability to coach. Knicks may not have been good, but they were a playoff team in the East.

I think the fact they didn't make it in a sad, sad Eastern conference playoff tier of teams is the reason he got fired. If it was a Western team he may have kept his job, but Bobcats-ATL-Toronto are all teams that NYK should have been ahead of, they have the talent and coach to make it at least in the last 6-8 spots.

That didn't happen, Woodson took the blame for it in his exit interview and Phil listened. Fortunately for NYK he is "not the only person" for this job. I expect them to be more competitive next year (pending Anthony's decision in the offseason).

Right. The person who complained about Odom doesn't understand the CBA. He's a contract that can be used for matching purposes in a trade then be immedistely waived by the acquiring party since he's not guaranteed. .
