Jeff Green 'Eminently Available' In Trade If Contending Team Views Him As Fit

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Apr 24, 2014 3:02 am

Jeff Green has two more seasons at $9.2 million per year left on his contract with the Boston Celtics, the second of which non-guaranteed.

Green is "eminently available" if a contending team believes in the veteran forward as a fit, according to a report. Green could provide a third or fourth scorer on a contender.

Green averaged 16.9 points and 4.7 rebounds this season.

I believe he would be a great fit in Phoenix up to the point of being almost as successful as Stoudamire was there.

Fire sale. Say bye to Jeff Green, Rondo, Humphries, Wallace and Bass.

If the Bobcats can't land a big FA, I definitely want him.

Minnesota might be interested. They need an upgrade at SF (Brewer's an ok backup, but it's kind of a joke that he started all season).

Of course Jeff Green is 'eminently available'...he's overpaid and doesn't do any one thing particularly well. He's an extremely mediocre rebounder for his size, he stands around the 3 point line and chucks a ton of 3s with a low percentage, he doesn't get to the free throw line consistently. He'd be an okay role player off the bench because he's a good defender and his percentage would probably go up a bit if he was left wide open more often, but most teams aren't going to shell out any serious assets to acquire him for a bench role when he's making over $9 million a season

If he's overpaid, it's by $1m, maybe $2mil.. and in the NBA that doesn't make you "overpaid-overpaid." Pretty much just makes you neutral, value-wise.

One of the most frustrating players in the league... has the talent/ability to be a top 30 player, but only shows that once every 4-5 games. He doesn't suck but he's not more than a #3 on a very good team, or a #4 on a championship team... Any interested teams shouldn't be banking on more than that and they shouldn't give up more than something like a mid-1st + a mediocre young player.

Two problems with that, Brewer is better than Green at a fraction of the cost. And Green simply can't guard SF's.

I guess that's 3 problems actually.

Jeff Green is good if he's the #3 player go-to player on your team.

He couldn't handle the double teams, and being the focus of opposing team's defenses. It was easier when he had a KG and Paul Pierce who were skilled enough to space the floor.

If the Celtics get a good draft spot, and draft Embiid, I would say Keep Rajon, Green, Sully. Ship everyone else.

Sign a spot up shooter like Gordon Hayward (In my dreams, I know)... or Jamal Crawford. You have yourself a pretty nice team right there.

This is another "eminently" inane headline/story. So, is Green NOT available in a trade for teams who don't see him as a fit? I can see the conversation now:
Team Exec: So, is Green really available?
Danny Ainge: Yes, but does he fit your team?
Team Exec: Not really, we just think he's a nice guy.
Danny Ainge: Then he's not available.

wow I remember when Green was a young asset and future of Celtics. Now a veteran and tradable. Not against the C's or Green really just seasons/big 3 quickly came and gone.

Though it seems like he is giving up and content with just either riding the bench or being a role player for a contending team. He will be a good asset though for the right price.
