Lacob: Warriors 'Unequivocally' Plan To Sign Klay Thompson To Long-Term Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Apr 25, 2014 2:21 am

Joe Lacob was asked about the future of Klay Thompson, who is scheduled to become a restricted free agent after next season barring a contract extension.

"We are going to re-sign Klay Thompson," said Lacob, the Golden State Warriors' co-owner. "I will say that unequivocally."

Thompson scored a career-high 18.4 points per game this season to along with career bests in field-goal shooting and three-point percentage.

Pretty much a no brainer there. I'm interested in how much he can get though.

A different NBA team will gladly offer 12-14m for a player his calibre... Especially a shooting guard who's that good

Yeah gotta agree with that, I think GSW may be forced into paying $12M for 5 years.

No way in hell he should get more than Curry.

Let's not forget that Curry signed during his ankle injury... If he were to sign right now, there's no doubt that he should be offered more than Thompson

I didn't forget, he still shouldn't get more. Curry with the ankle concerns back then was more valuable than Thompson.

The value of Currys contract could be beneficial in negotiating for GSW
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

I'd say 12 million would be a fair "market price." He's really only probably going to be worth like 10 though for the next few years (on average), and that's not taking into consideration the possibility of injury (though to his credit, he hasn't had any (major) injuries).

anything more than curry's contract would be a joke. kaly is nowhere near worth $12+. unfortunately contracts like eric gordon will justify that

Curry should be geyting max...

I dunno why u guys act'like his contract tells anything, he's extremely underpaid..

Even bogut and iggy get 12m per, and klay is better than both..

We just goypt lucky with steph because he were 2 years injured straight, that's why he isn't a max now, but sure he will be soon after his current deal expires. Anything less than 10-12 for klay = joke.

We can't afford to let him go.

Then again, I kinda like Lance Stephenson, but his head is **** tho.

i agree that curry is underpaid. he's top 10 talent in the league right now. but no way is klay worth more than $12. only argument is having another one trick pony in eric gordon

Klay is actually pretty good defensively, I wouldn't be surprised if all of these 3 will get around 11-14 per ( Hayward, Thompson & Lance Stephenson).

Yup. Contract inflation, Golden State would just be silly to let him walk now.

Either they overpay or lose him. I think he will get overpaid by a lot. 12m + a year.

I never seen how someone like Andre Iguodala can be paid top money when he can't score, he can't shoot, is a liability at the FT line, is a overrated defender, and is declining. I kept on seeing excuses after excuses for this guy from so many people, but the last 3 years proven that he's not worth big money. Maybe like $8 mil per year tops, but no where near $12 mil per year.

I would stay far, far, far away from this knucklehead. He got into it with his teammate during the game, he got into it with his teammate during practice, his teammates calling him out, a fake tough guy. He's just as overrated as Andre Iguodala.

Now for Klay, I really hope we can sign him back, BUT at a fair price. 4 Years $40 Mil is where the Warriors should pay him. Max Money? I don't think so. He needs to have better handles, get to the FT line more often, continue to attack the rim like he has as of late and finishing at the rim, and be more consistent to get max money.

Ok $12 mil per year for Klay? That's fine. Overpaying just a little at maybe like a extra $2 mil per year, but that's fine for a two way player. I rather spend that money on Klay Thompson than Andre Iguodala who was signed to a 4 Year $48 Mil contract last offseason that's not a offensive threat, can't score, can't shoot, is a horrible FT shooter, can't take some of the pressure off of Curry, declining, and is a overrated defender. Klay Thompson is more deserving of a contract than Andre Iguodala that's for sure.
