Lakers To Reach Out To Kevin Ollie, John Calipari

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu May 1, 2014 4:31 pm

The Los Angeles Lakers hope to "make a splash" with their eventual head coaching choice.

The Lakers intend to reach out to Kevin Ollie and John Calipari to at least gauge their interest in the position.

Conflict of interest....Kobe wants a weak coach so he can score as many points as he can...after that extension, it's clear he isn't looking for rings.....there is only one Tim Duncan.

There is no need to hire anyone, just let Kobe be the:
- best player on the roster
- team coach
- trainer
- GM
- consultant
- part owner

Does everything have to go through him first? I know he is a superstar, but he got his huge over-paid contract. Maybe he should focus on rehab and getting back to basketball, while the Lakers front office worries about building the team?

The Lakers are GREAT at destroying coaching careers these days. Ollie and Calipari would have to be either insane or offered a ridiculous amount of money to go there...knowing they can always find a gig back in college. They should be hiring Mike Woodson if they had a clue. A great underrated coach who's used to dealing with a crappy situation.

Ollie should do it. Unlike Calipari, he's young enough that if he gets fired fast after taking the job, he can land back on his feet with an assistant job in the NBA somewhere.

Lol at these comments. If the Lakers call you about potentially coaching the team you have to consider it regardless of their situation.

Kobe cannot be questioned or denied by anyone in LA - Just do what he says everyone, including any stars this team *might* add lol

haha Lakers. Welcome to the bottom of the Western Conference. You guys are worse off than the Sacramento Kings but not the Utah Jazz.

This is the next generation of Lakers ownership that is actually relying on the franchise to "preserve wealth." They're probably going to try to find a "cheap" coach, which is why Calipari is out. Jim Buss is a college dropout that would probably be in the poor house if not for legacy wealth.

Kevin Ollie isn't going anywhere. Jim Calhoun handed the keys to him to continue UConn's legacy. He's got a good gig.
Plus he gets time off during the season which isn't something anyone in the nba gets

I think Kevin Ollie would be an excellent head coach in the NBA. He is familiar with the league and he is incredible detailed and knowledgeable.

Better hire a long term fit because the current Lakers roster is pure garbage, even with a healthy Kobe.

It will be nice if the front office consult Kobe and the potential free agent signing this time around instead of rushing to hire just any big name this time around. Kevin Ollie would be my top choice cos he is young and he understands the NBA

So how do you explain the 30M they will pay in taxes for their 27 win team? They may be less smart than their predecessors, but they are not cheap.

It makes sense that the Lakers are looking for a recruiter as coach (Ollie is close with Durant.) Basically all the Lakers have to offer now is the city and their history, because their present is in nearly as bad a position as the Knicks. They have zero assets, likely won't get a top 5 pick this year and owe 2 of their next 3 first rounders. They either get bailed out by big name FA or they are a mess.

Draft Lottery is May 20. When Lakers get #1 overall pick then Coach Cali is going to Cali.
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming
