Saunders Thought He Was Close To Deal With Izzo

At one point during his search for a new head coach, sources say Flip Saunders thought he had convinced Tom Izzo to take the job with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Izzo has also been linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers' job over the years, but he's ultimately always remained at Michigan State.

Saunders decided to take the head coaching job himself after being unable to agree to terms with Izzo and Dave Joerger.

What is with Flip becoming chatty about all the coaches he's loved before? First JVG, then Izzo, then Joerger...Why doesn't he just write a book!

If Izzo does leave college ball,he will most likely take the next available coaching gig in MI,for the pistons.Hes been here so long that his family is rooted here and I doubt he takes a job that takes him away from that,not to mention if he fails coachng in the NBA,he can go right back to college ball.

Tom Izzo would not leave a great program like Michigan St. just to be the head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Not happening and will never happen unless LeBron James or Kevin Durant goes there.
