Calipari Becomes 2nd Richest Coach In NCAA With $52.5M Extension

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jun 6, 2014 3:44 pm

John Calipari reached a new deal with Kentucky, becoming the second-highest paid coach in college basketball.

Calipari's deal runs through March of 2021 and he would make $52.5 million in guaranteed compensation.

Calipari made $5.2 million annually under the old deal and will average $7.5 million under the new one.

According to USA Today's salary database, he passed Louisville's Rick Pitino ($5.76 million) and trails only Duke's Mike Krzyzewski ($9.68 million) on the highest-paid list.

Calipari has also been linked to NBA coaching jobs in recent seasons.

Contract until 2021? At least he doesn't have to worry about a job for the next "little while"

lol @ people who say players shouldn't get paid. These coaches are only as good as the players they can get.

Even if NCAA wants to maintain the amateur status of its athletes, just have players paid retroactively after graduation; once they're done and out of school, pay them the money they are owed.

the NCAA is the modern day railroad construction... whites dominate the management positions, blacks dominate the product in which the work gets done.. and yet the whites all profit from it.. and in exchange they get "education" and "living expenses"

That's pretty damn messed up, they make a killing and the players merely get sports scholarships. Yes education is great, but lets be real here.

Yeah, because they don't give players ****.

Well, there's the scholarship. Too bad players can't really take advantage of that education because they have to spend most of their time practicing and playing.

If it's an amateur league, shouldn't the coaches be amateurs, too ?
Why should they get paid ?
