Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jun 9, 2014 8:56 pm

The New York Knicks and Derek Fisher are close to agreement on a five-year deal for him to become head coach.

Phil Jackson has ramped up his pursuit of Fisher in recent days.

Jackson was unable to secure a deal with his first choice Steve Kerr.

Not sure Fish can turn the Knicks around. Especially if Melo leaves. But who knows; Tim Hardaway Jr. may be a superstar.

Am I missing something?

Phil was willing to give a $25/5 year deal to DFish but not Kerr?

A proven head coach such as Gregg Popovich is paid $6M/year, while Fisher with no track record gets $5M/yr.

Jackson love for coaches with triangle experience is going to F the knicks. I like Fish alot and think he'll do well "someday" in the future as a HC but to give a guy with no coaching experince this much money and for this long is nuts. Ramis knew the triangle as much as Fish does at this moment if not better when he was HC of Minn and that failed miserably.

I have high hopes for Fish, I think he was made for this. He will be a very good coach, I think Phil has gotten his man.

obviously had a good playing career carving out 17 years in the nba but can he coach? even phil coached in the minor leagues and served time as an assistant before becoming the head coach.

Rambis had terrible players and also didn't have the Triangle Master advising him every day.

Phil found his student, overall Fisher will have success. I'm skeptical about Fish when it comes down to in-game adjustments vs coaches like Pop.

Fish is a 5-time champion point guard. I am sure he knows how to read games. He just need some on-the-job training from Phil

Back to the coaching carousel, if Kurt Rambis is to serve as assistant coach to Fish, then perhaps Lakers can hire Mike Dunleavy, Sr.?

Lakers are dumb. Fire Kupchuk and Jim Buss needs to step down. Too bad Jerry Buss didn't give the team to his basketball son Magic Johnson. How do you turn down Phil Jackson with 11 rings. Then the one man that can bring us back is rejected. Phil knows what he's doing the Lakers don't. The worst season in Laker history and the GM stays. Let Dwight Howard go for nothing now Pau Gasol for nothing. Something is very wrong here. how come Jenie didn't fight harder for her man? This is straight BS.
