Celtics May Have Best Offer On Table To Wolves For Kevin Love

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jun 17, 2014 4:37 pm

The Boston Celtics continue to pursue a trade for Kevin Love, offering the No. 6 and No. 17 picks in this year's draft, along with future No. 1's and young players such as Jared Sullinger or Kelly Olynyk.

Flip Saunders does not want to trade away Love, but he is beginning to realize that he would lose him for nothing next summer and this offer from the Celtics may be the best one he receives from any team.

The Wolves would own picks No. 6, 13 and 17, which could allow them to remake the core of the roster.

Sullinger and Olynyk are a dime a dozen.

Who knows how good the 6th and 17th pick will be.

They need to grab Parker out of this trade somehow. Out of the top 3 players, his personality seems like the better fit for MINN. They shouldn't rush and totally rebuild in this years draft. Take it slow and get in position to get Okafor next year. You can end up with Rubio/Parker/Okafor/Pekovic as a core. Sure they can grab players like Hood, Lavine, or Gordon with the rest of their picks but no one past the top 6 are viewed as AS. The slow approach at least gives them their best shot at grabbing two potential AS players in two years. No use treadmilling in the West

I wonder whether Love would re-sign with that Boston team, though? No picks, and a limited roster. How is that any better than Minnesota? Other than being in the East, of course.

Nobody would trade the #6 pick in this draft for Harrison Barnes.

Nobody.

no matter where he gets traded the team is going to end up giving up a lot, I'm sure he knows that. They're also a lot more likely to sign free agents in Boston than Minnesota.

Love won't sign any extension because he knows that the team receiving him in a trade is being gutted of their assets.

The smart thing that Love will do, is simply wait out his contract until he hits free agency, and then he can choose a team that doesn't have to lose assets to acquire him.

There will still be picks, Boston has more 1sts than anyone.

More moves would follow too, obviously. 0% chance the roster would look like what you posted.

I wouldn't trade my jock strap for Harrison Barnes. What's your point?

No picks? Boston is LOADED with picks. We can give Minnesota our #6, #17, the clippers 2015 first-rounder AND the Nets 2016 first-rounder. We would still have ALL of our own future picks as well as the Nets 2018 first-rounder (unprotected) AND the right to swap first-rounders with the Nets in 2017.

Not to mention we can easily add Asik with our $10m TPE. So it would look like this.

Rondo
Bradley
Green
Love
Asik

With tons of first-round picks to spare.

Yeah, agreed, but let's not undervalue his ability to steer this process. Boston can offer the world (as could a number of teams), but they may (should) require an extension agreement firs--which Love controls. In other words, it isn't just who has the best offer--but who has the best offer that leaves a team prepared to win now and gain Love's support.

That the #6 pick is better than any asset GSW has to offer.

I'd take Klay over the number six. Especially given Sota's track record with the draft.

Like who? Which playoff teams will also have the cap space to bring him in without losing any of their players? Houston is the only one that projects to be able to now, and even then they'll have to lose Parsons. And they might not even be able to depending on this year's fee agency.
