Tim Duncan Opts Into $10.3M Contract For 14-15 With Spurs

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jun 23, 2014 8:10 pm

Tim Duncan has decided to opt into the final season of his contract with the San Antonio Spurs, worth approximately $10.3 million.

Duncan will revisit his future with the Spurs next summer.

There had been reports earlier on Monday that Duncan may sign a new contract with the Spurs in order to reduce his 14-15 salary.

I would think he would have a conversation with R.C. Buford, opts out, and get a increase in pay for a new one year contract, but that's not Timmy's style. He's all about the team. What a hell of a player for a head coach to coach and what a hell of a player for a GM to build around.

Can't think of a classier player. Maybe Steve Nash gets the bow for being as classy (unwilling to leave Phoenix unless they got value in return), but Tim Duncan is up there as #1.

Great to see Tim come back. Class act, true champ. Spurs have to be the favorites to win again next year, father time be damned.

If he wins 6... wow.

I know, every other team in the world across any sport has to pay their star franchise guy more money than they are probably worth when it comes to their final years. It's win and get paid a fair enough amount, or lose and get paid an insane amount.

The league is so weak these days, especially big men.

I bet he would retire if this were the 90s.

Bad move Timmy. Had a chance to retire a Champion to go along with a list of accolades instead of cashing in on 10 mill year. Now you'll most likely retire "old and worn" (as some like to call out-of-their-prime players).

God to be young again and have no concept of what $10 million actually means in comparison to a 'legacy' story promulgated by some talking head.

Better than Kobe's 2 year 40 mill.

A poster named "kb all day" chastising Timmy fit taking 10million next season when Kobe took 30 million this season and will take 24million each of the next two seasons -- leading his team straight to the lottery till he retires.

Everyone has the Spurs as the fav's to win next season. Why? Because they won this season? Weren't the Heat the fav's to win it this year? Because they beat the Spurs last year, right? This is kind of presumptuous. It doesn't take much knowledge or insight to simply pick the current champ as the favorite next year. As a matter of fact it's short sighted in regards to the off season, the draft and free agency and the impact that each will have on the league. How about letting these teams play about 35 reg. season gms and then make your predictions.
