Embiid In Play For 76ers, Magic; Unlikely To Fall Past Kings At No. 8

Joel Embiid is currently slotted to go third overall to the Philadelphia 76ers in the most recent mock draft by Jonathan Givony at Draft Express.
The 76ers are planning a slow rebuild, so selecting Embiid with the possibility he sits out his entire rookie season as Nerlens Noel did in 13-14 is not an issue.
Draft Express reports that the Orlando Magic also represent a viable option to select Embiid with the No. 4 pick and the worst case scenario are the Sacramento Kings at No. 8.

If they can get Wiggins, get Wiggins. If not, go with Embiid and try to sign LeBron or Melo.
MCW, Wiggins, Noel
or
MCW, Noel, Embiid
or
MCW, LeBron/Melo, Noel, Embiid

Noel and Embiid would be pretty exciting to watch, assuming they live up to the expectations.

I don't think it's a smart idea to draft embiid especially with noel on the roster - they both play the same position and are both rim protectors. An embiid draft selection even if it's soley based on talent would likely make noel feel like the sixers aren't confident in his abilities to become an elite palyer. If both wiggins and parker are off the board when the sixers pick than they should either draft dante exum or trade down. It's already been reported that the celtics maybe interested in trading up to draft embiid if they feel he or Aaron Gordon won't be available when they pick at #6. Now there is also a report that the celtics are trying to find a third team to send rondo to so they can combine assets together to entice the cavs and aquire the #1 pick to select wiggins.

Your reasoning for not taking Embiid is unsound. What does drafting Exum say about the Sixers confidence in MCW? The Sixers are in no position to draft a player based on team need. They need talent. You take the BPA. If that's Embiid, you take Embiid and worry about fit later.

Honestly the best fit for Embiid would be in Boston or Utah. Kanter is garbage as a starter, and the Celtics don't have a rim protector on their roster.
Either way, if I'm a team that has been swamped in mediocrity for a long time, I would skip the risk and take a guy like Exum. Embiid is only valuable as an asset right now, given his navicular bone issue.

It sucks to be a Sixers fan. They trade away the best player in Jrue for Nerlens and tell the fanbase to be patient with him. If they draft Embiid it will be another story.
I however think Philly's future is bright, and the GM and team are taking the right slow approach. It just must be really hard for a die hard philly fan to continue to wait year after year. As a Raptors fan I remember complaining about having to wait for Val, so I can only imagine the Sixers fanbase feelings.
Still a team of...
Embiid
Noel
MCW
+ all that cap space and the other pick in this year's draft. They can do some damage in 3-4 years.

Nerlens Noel was taken 1st overall knowing that he was going to be out for the year and with serious knee concerns. Embiid has higher upside, a more well rounded game and IMO is no more a health risk. He's not falling to 8 or anywhere near it.

Ummm....that awkward moment when you realize Nerlens Noel was taken 6th.

It doesn't suck to be a Sixer-fan. The Jrue trade was exaclty what our franchise needed: finally a clear direction.

I more so meant that it sucks to have to do all that waiting, but I totally love the direction your franchise is going and love the patience as well as young core of stars you guys have.
I was a huge fan of the Jrue trade, but I mean it might be hard to get people in the seats at games. Nerlens Noel + the other pick this year that might be Nik Stauskas. That is more than worth it. Also the trade helped the team secure a 3rd overall pick as well.
