Lakers, Bulls, Rockets, Celtics, Thunder Lead NBA In 14-15 Profits

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jun 30, 2014 4:47 pm

The Los Angeles Lakers are projected to make $100.1 million in profit for the 13-14 NBA season, comfortably the best in the NBA.

The Chicago Bulls are second at $61 million, followed by the Houston Rockets ($40.7 million), Boston Celtics ($33.1 million) and Oklahoma City Thunder ($29 million).

The Lakers have a huge profit despite contributing a league-high $49 million to revenue-sharing.

The New York Knicks are expected to take a net loss of $3.5 million due to $27 million in revenue-sharing contribution and paying a large luxury tax bill.

The San Antonio Spurs, Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, in net profits.

The Brooklyn Nets will post a loss of $144 million for the season.

I'm pleasantly surprised with the Boston projection. Most of the 2008 bandwagoners have jumped ship and onto the Bruins horse.

Until they sell their team then everyone gets an extra hundreds of mil - billion dollars.

When people claim the team loses money it is 1) bs and 2) leads to a lockout so just shut the h up already.

It's two sides to the business, everything doesn't revolve around the court action.

Its interesting that Chicago is the 2nd most profitable team in the league, yet their owner is unwilling to go over tax territory in order to sign some decent players.

I think it is funny that Jazz has been in top percentile of successful teams. Prior years, they have always had top 5 TV ratings, and top 10 attendance. Then even in the most dismal year since coming to Salt Lake, Jazz still make more more money than most, and are in the top 7 for profit.

How come no "all stars" want to come to Utah, it is maddening? I really feel very bad for Parker being stuck in Milwaukee and Wiggins for Cleveland.

I think more stars want the bigger market maybe? If Dante reaches his potential, maybe you get some players willing to come.

Either way, the Jazz are better off building through the draft and making smart trades a la San Antonio.

I'm shocked Utah was top 10 in profits considering how dismal the year was. Do they have a nice tv contract or something?
