Carmelo Meets With Rockets For Six Hours, Just Two For Mavs

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jul 3, 2014 2:27 am

Carmelo Anthony met with the Houston Rockets for six hours on Wednesday.

Anthony expressed that it would be difficult for him to leave the New York Knicks, but said winning was his priority.

"Carmelo seemed engaged and he made a point of saying that his first priority is to win," a source said.

Anthony also met privately for about 10 minutes with Dwight Howard and James Harden.

Anthony asked Kevin McHale questions about the offense and asked Howard why he chose Houston as a free agent last summer, the source said. Howard told him he loved the city and the support he's received from management and the coaching staff.

Anthony met with the Dallas Mavericks later in the day, though for just over two hours.

That would be because it would take 3x longer for Rockets to convince anyone they have a doable plan to acquire Melo on Melo's terms.

Mark Cuban is a straight business man, he don't play, and don't waste time.

He probably hired some crazy sports marketing team that had the pitch/presentation down to a science.

How about asking Jeremy Lin how management has treated him since he left NY and signed with the Rockets?

I wonder if Cuban does it Shark Tank style. I'm offering you a max offer, you have 20 seconds to accept or it's off the table....The Mavs are out.

If he resigns with NY, then winning is absolutely not his top priority.

The Bulls, Rockets, and Mavs all have significantly better rosters.

lol I think he might go to chicago, considering how much they were hyping him before they even got him. Plus why would he go to the west if he wants to win? Stay in the lackluster east for a better chance.

Think Dal is perfect. Let him be the A1 star (Rose in Chi & Harden/Howard in Hou). Dal has the perfect complimentary star in Dirk, great ownership (way better than Chi) & tons of flexibility moving forward. They can compete this year, & sign more pieces to continue getting better in the future.

Why people don't go to Dallas I don't get.

2 hour pitch, 4 hours of begging. Why would a pitch take 6 hours?

So tired of people saying winning isn't a priority is Melo stays put. Just because the Knicks aren't the better team to most people, doesn't mean that by choosing them he is going to accept losing. He still could very much value winning, and the Knicks could make a couple moves to be better. In the end NY is Melo's team, anywhere else he goes he takes a back seat to the stars that are already there. His other option to stay allows NY to still be the man in NY and not have to move his family. There is no place like MSG, and there is no city like NYC...

Agreed! Winning is contagious and so is losing. I see the Knicks being more competitive if he comes back. Don't forget the east is getting stronger so next year may be tougher too.

No offense to Rocket fans, but if I am Melo there is no way I hitch my wagon to the Dwight Howard train. HE is a mental midget, exceedingly immature, unreliable, and he folds under pressure.

He makes too much money to just defend, and then be a space cadet.

More over he is a malcontent, he has had problems everywhere he has been, and has made waves for people, and just handled his life and business the wrong way time and time again on and off the court.

I would rather look elsewhere in the league for a star to partner with to win a ring if I am leaving New York.

Any franchise that puts a current players jersey on display for a potential signing should not be respected - this could just as easily be Carmelo if he stays with the Rockets and starts a sharp decline...sad but true. Move on to the Mavs/Chicago/Lakers and that is that

Um, how in the world did Dwight go against his word in this scenario?

I think you have misinterpreted Dwight's original comments.

If Melo wants a ring he should sign with Houston.

WHY? LOL To go play in a stacked conference where he will have hardest rd to finals? Play with Harden whos is gonna want to shoot more and play even less D then Melo? The role players arent gonna be very good since melo will need to get his max deal... Only reason Melo should go there is if he some how believes Howard will return to the form he had in Orlando which is unlikely.......

Dallas is a great team, there's nothing more gratifying than working for an owner who goes out of his way for his employees.
